I just want to get a little discussion to see what kind of ideas the people of OUR fanbase have. So...

What could Dan Mullen do to improve the staff/image/program effectiveness (if needed)?

OR

There has been a lot of talk about Mullen being relieved of his duties, for a number of reasons. I am not here to focus on his shortcomings nor his downfalls. But I want to ask who, pray tell me, who is it that could possibly replace the 3rd winningest coach in our program's molehill history?

I have a feeling one more season of November skulldraggings by Ole Miss and Bama will rub off any lingering fuzzy feelings people have for Mullen.

As long as Mullen keeps winning 19 games over 2 years, I'll want him here forever.

I really like mullen and respect the man for doing it the right way, the only big negative I have about him is I think he enjoys his name being thrown out there with every job. Sometimes it makes me feel like he really doesn't want to be here. If I was a 5 star player, I wouldn't commit to a team when the coach may be there for one then I'm there for 3 more years with a new coach that may be another Croom type. I just want him to say I'm here and I ain't going anywhere so don't bother by calling.

I wish he felt the same way. It's obvious he doesn't.

eta: Is there any wonder why despite Mullen having a much better W/L than Jackie, that Jackie was more beloved by our fans? He went out of his way to constantly remind us that he is one of US. Despite the constant Jackie to Bama rumors throughout the late 90's he never let that affect his attachment to State and his ability to do his job.

That is the craziest thing I've ever heard. Mullen can't control media saying he's a candidate or not. If Mullen really wanted to be gone I'm sure he's had opportunities. No coach anywhere is going to say don't even call me. Hell would you do that for someone wanting to talk to you about a job? I wouldn't.

The man has his name attached to two of the most prolific Qb's in SEC history. He will always be able to find a high paying job. This does not mean he has the all-in mentality that it takes to run a successful program in the SEC west. This is more than obvious when he goes head to head either coaching or recruiting against the two men who do have that mentality.

When you decide that your recruiting base is a 300 mile radius, how the 17 do you not load up your staff with recruiters from said radius?? Losing Sleepy and Tony was the death blow to this class.

Cool but Mullen hasn`t done it the "right way" for MSU....he`s done it for himself. He wouldn`t dare risk his marketability as a candidate for a "bigger" job to further our cause. It`s been that way since he stepped on campus.
