First off, I just want to say that I know this is a sports board, but let's admit that other "OT" topics are frequently posted/debated on here. This can range from hunting and fishing to celeberity deaths. I think this is great, it gives us something to talk about in the dog days of summer. However, I think more important topics like politics could be discussed on a separate sixpack sponsored board.

I'm not saying that these discussions on this proposed board will not get out of hand every once in awhile, but I have a couple suggestions on how it could be regulated in a fair manner.

2 Strike system appies: Instead of locking threads, you can be warned by an admin about strikes and that once you incur 2 you will no longer be able to post on the political board.

There is a limit on how many new topics can be started per day. Let's call it 5 to 10 (I don't know if limiting the number of topics per day is actually doable, just a suggestion)

A donation ceiling must be hit in order to fund the extra admin and bandwith expenses that the moderators will have to deal with. Dawgstudent, you can name your price on this but I will gladly donate if this plan is approved.
I realize this is a simplified plan and probably has more roadblocks than I can think of but I figured this could be a good thing if done right. Any suggestions or amendments are welcome.

Thanks again for letting me post on this board,

HAIL STATE

and no extra cost. I probably wouldn't read or moderate it though. The biggest problem though is that there are never sane, rational discussions. Within 5 posts someone says "17 this, stupid libs/cons, etc."

** I think we can handle the extra traffic since the board is so busy these days....

..one thing I like about this board is it nips political talk in the bud.

The fact we are all Miss. State is a unifying force, regardless of political belief.

If I told you what I believe politically, it would result in nothing but me receiving hate mail.

If you told us what you believe politically, you would receive hate mail.

Please keep the political stuff off this board.

We can unite around being Miss. State fans. That's a positive that should not be endangered by dipping into the well of politics.

There are other forums for that chat that blends that and sports talk. DS does a good job of keeping 99% of that crap off of here which lends to the "personality" of the Sixpack.

Not that that **** ain't important, it is mostly because the board would melt down into unbearably long threads of "your and idiot" and such.

hell - i'll even link to it where it will look like a board on sixpack on the directory page. It would just point to sixpackpolitical.yuku.com for example. Since we are all on Yuku, anyone could post there.

If anyone wants to start it - let me know and I will be happy to link to it. I will never be a part of it though nor sponsor it. I need to discuss with the sixpack legal team if there are any legal ramifications if one of you psycho people go postal on another poster.

I can't imagine that political threads on this board would be any better than the Clarion Ledger's comments section. Nobody is going to change anyone's mind in this forum. It will just be a bunch of idiots yelling at each other over the web. We have enough of that already. No thank you. Take it somewhere else.

Seriously, if one team/party wins the other points to the great history of their team/party. Nobody ever wants the other team/party to succeed even if it benefits them. Objectivity for the most part is completely out the window when it comes to State/Ole Miss or Democrat/Republican. Admit it when you see a car with a political sticker that opposes your view you get a similar feeling as to when you see a car with an opposing teams sticker. The one question I always have in regards to loyalty versus belief that their political platforms are superior is. Would you like the other party in power if it meant, 2.5% unemployment, top five worldwide education ranking, low crime rate, superior defense, etc. with all the freedoms we have come to expect? If your answer is no you are one of the rabid fans.

Want knee-jerk, ill-informed, poorly-spelled, ALL CAPS, 140-spaces-long rants from each and every imaginable point on the political compass? You're in luck!

This board should stick to sports. Too many people here get all wound up over stuff in which they have no control. Personally, I'm politically moderate, and I don't like the way people both on the Conservative side and the Ultra-far-radical-extreme-Left go after each other.

Also debate the merits of bunting over lead off hitters.
ETA I am also anti-political board, it causes too much ill will.

we can use this forum for political chat. Until that happens, I can get myfill of politics on the TV. Besides, after reading posts on here for years, I wouldn't valueany poster'spolitical opinion anyway.

help moderate the cluster17 that would ensue. For those of you who would enjoy it, I hope it works out. I happen to hate politics and dislike both parties so I won't be there to see the riveting conversation. Redbird... I nominate you the head of the new board committee.
