one of my favorite things to do here on SPS is to go back in time and remind you other resident experts of when I stood basically alone on a point, and of course be the one that was right in the end. Been saying for years I'd rather have Miles than Saban- and Miles is a better coach. He now leads the series vs Saban 3-2, and will finish ahead of Saban in the West for the 3rd time in 5 seasons.<div>
</div><div>Proof? You want proof you say? Ok here ya go:</div><div>
</div><div>http://sixpackspeak.yuku.com/reply/94305/Troy-14-LSU-3#reply-94305</div><div>
</div><div>In this thread, MeoCowStanza breaks a Cardinal rule by trying to taunt me before a game has ended. He mentions my Miles > Saban stance, as well as me saying give Jarrett Lee some time before judging him as a QB- Meo, Lee has had a pretty good season this year hasnt he?</div><div>
</div><div>http://sixpackspeak.yuku....finishes-4-4-in-the-SEC-</div><div>
</div><div>In this post- resident expert whatever tells us of a world dominated by Nick Saban</div><div>

</div><div>more MeoCowstanza posts- ahhhh, going back in time to read is so much fun</div><div>
</div><div>http://sixpackspeak.yuku.com/sreply/69015/-Cheese</div><div>
</div><div>and a great post of mine- beating on my favorite nemesis- Ol Blew...lost the ban bet we had on Miles- and then returned to still trumpet Saban and also show his cleverness in calling me Peaches. Blew- you're such a gangsta, albeit an always wrong gangsta</div><div>

Surely you have more pressing things to worry about than pulling back old posts just to stir **** up. Admittedly, it is entertaining, but come on... really?

and has been from the beginning. All he's done is win more at Oklahoma St. than Jimmy Johnson did and win more at LSU than Nick Saban did. And yet somehow, he's still a bad coach who has incredible luck to many.

I don't remember putting my stance out there here, but if I did... I have a hard time admitting Les being a better coach than Saban. Maybe it is a lot of the luck he's had at times, but luck doesn't produce the amount of good teams he's fielded and that's apparent. Just from my personal preference, I'd probably still prefer Saban, but as the years these goes by and these two coaches continue to go against one another... it's hard to dismiss an argument of Les being the better coach. I could see it going either way, honestly.

I can never forgive Miles for his clock management blunders.<div>
</div><div>But he did out-coach Saban last night. Its not that Miles did anything spectacular. Its more than Saban screwed up. Face it - half of winning is simply screwing up less frequently than your opponent.</div><div>
</div><div>Saban outsmarted himself, or over-thought, special teams. Putting an injured Maze in to return a punt was a bad move. Losing patience with this FG kickers, especially putting the short range guy in to kick a 50-yarder, was bad on many levels.</div><div>
</div><div>Saban also screwed up overtime. Play calling there was bad. And the QB taking a sack, which comes down to coaching, was bad.</div><div>
</div><div>And finally...any team whose hopes of beating LSU come down to beating a LSU DB 1-on-1 end the endzone....well, you're gonna lose. LSU did it to us (Tyson Lee). They did it to Bama. They made a spectacular play where the Bama guy catches the ball in the air at the 1 yard line and the LSU guy strips it away in mid air and comes down with it.</div><div>

But I'm not sure it's fair to compare his head to head record with Saban. Miles was well established at LSU (after stepping into a program that was already in great condition) when Saban came back to basically rebuild at Alabama. At least the first year (which I think Miles won?) should be thrown out.

I'd still take Saban if I needed to rebuild a program, although it will be interesting to see how long Saban can maintain alabama at a championship level. Just seems unlikely that anybody could maintain the level of intensity he does for 5 to 10 years in one place.

3-2 and he's clearly a better coach. Ok. Coach if people posted everytime you were wrong, the board would have a great deal of worthless threads (this included).

So LSU gets the breaks in a dead even game and now Miles is better than Saban? Wonder how many that REALLY coach football (you know, for real, not pretend from a message board) would agree.<div>
</div><div>I'd say Bama slightly outplayed them, but missed 4 FG's and had an INT on the 1 yard line going in. Even if that pass is ruled incomplete, Bama is still inside the LSU 30 yard line, putting them in scoring position 4 more times in regulation than LSU.<div>
</div><div>This isn't the last time they'll ever play, so I'd still want Saban going forward.</div><div>
</div><div>The difference in the two is Miles is more reliant on hiring good coordinators, Saban creates his. Saban teaches his defense to brand new DC's(that are GA's that work their way up a lot of the time) and grooms them, so he'll have a good defense no matter who his DC is. Miles was good w/ Pelini and Chavis, but below average the year he had co-coordinators. If Chavis chose UGA over LSU, are we having this conversation? </div><div>
</div><div>Who is hiring a coach that Miles has groomed?</div><div>

you've been behind him all along. If I had a DI player recruited by both, I'd push my kid toward Miles over Saban.

Anyone that can beat Saban on a consistant basis gets my respect. Plus, he just seems like such a better person than Saban is. Saban comes across as a control freakstyled ******* to me. Miles seems much more personable and easy-going. If I had a kid considering the 2 programs, I would steer him to LSU over Bama.

Imagine if LSU had a legitimate NFL quality QB (Keenum, Luck, etc.) to go along withthat defense and group of skill players. Yikes.

I mean these 2 right now seem to be the best at what they're doing....in the SEC at the very least. Both are successful and have cemented their programs at the top for the forseeable future.

To say Miles out coached Saban last night would not be a good assessment. I'd would call last nights match itself a draw. You cant coach a kicker....their minds are too 17ed up as it is. Its pot luck therr

I don't think he has anything else to do at all...especially anything better.

Saban had the better team (I thought LSU had the better team going in but I was wrong). Miles coached pretty close to a perfect game. Saban made many big mistakes. The decisions to try the long FGs were laughable, especially the one with a kicker who had never made one over 37 yards (who could have possibly seen that that one might be blocked?). His "long" FG kicker was 1 for freaking 4 coming in. It's not that Saban can't coach him that I criticize him for. It's that he had him in the ball game to begin with. Not to mention the gimmick play when he had some momentum going and putting a 1-legged guy back to return a punt.

Nothing say better coach than 0-21 and not crossing midfield until the 4th quarter. Saban built Both of these programs.

Bottom line, you poll every AD as to which coach they would choose if they could have him, and I bet 80% or more take Saban. I would hope ours would take him.

and then TODAY, you said whoever won tonight would prove they were the better coach. In other words, when Peaches wants to get something right, he follows the Blue.<div>

34 you are a 17in idiot if you at all believe Lester is as good a coach as Saban. You are the only dumb17 in the world who believes that. Lester was unequivocally outcoached tonight and his team was outplayed. I usually agree with you but you lose any credibility saying dumb **** like like les is better than Saban.

And coach34 is mostly an idiot and an LSU homer, but Miles is still a hell of a coach. This LSU team is still great enough to win the national title most years. It is not like Nutt winning with Orgeron recruits (or some other better example someone can think of).

Anybody can sign 5 stars at LSU. LSU has all the advantages in the world, but it still takes a great coach to compete for the national title, and I see them competing for it again next year.

ETA: Let us not forget, Alabama only got a shot due to forces(luck) beyond their control. Had Oklahoma state not 17ed up against ISU, Alabama would have been at home tonight.

Great conversation, but what is the only factor that keeps the great L. Miles from winning championships, Nick Saban. Hell I would even give Saban huge points for the players he left in Baton Rouge that helped Miles win his national championship. <div>
</div><div>Put it this way, what stops Saban from winning national championships, nothing other than Urban Meyer.</div><div>
</div><div>The two games they played this year, Saban has beat Les at almost every aspect of both games, except for FG in the first game. Alabama man handled them then and they handled them tonight. All in all, those were the two best teams in the nation tonight. </div>

</div>Saban had one team lose and help him jump from #3 to #2 and get to the NC game. Miles lost to two unranked teams and had #1 and #2 lose in the last week letting him jump up 5 spots to #2.

I actually have a fairly neutral opinion of 34, but I've never seen such blatant mental contortion. The cognitive dissonance is off the charts.
