I have a feeling his arm next year is gonna end up having surgery. 120+ pitches still pitching 100. His arm is gonna fall off. Classic Wes Johnson. Riding guys into the ground.

He has the complexion of Randy Johnson so he may have a genetic advantage.

It doesn’t really matter after you go pro and get paid. At that point, have surgery, who cares.

I’m big on arm care but mainly for youth, high school and early college. Skenes is a month from the draft.

but it’s still a little much, I will say that

He didn’t need to pitch in the eighth, especially after the first base runner. That guy has too much to lose being overextended like that. I didn’t care for it. But hey, I’m not a LSU coach or fan.

His second to last pitch was 100 miles per hour. That dude will be rich soon. How many starters are first year LSU? They were talking about how good of a recruiter the coach is. They probably have a pay roll more than a A professional team. I want all that money to be wasted.

Well...this LSU team is literally the best team money can buy. And I realize we went after Skenes and lost. I don't know of any freshman on thier team. On paper, they will lose everyone after this year, and I would be giddy, BUT....but I know they are already working that NIL and portal and will just reload again for next year. NIL and portal have ruined the greatest remaining sport in America...college baseball.

120 pitches isn't a big deal. He has the frame to throw 100 all the time. Give him proper rest and everything will be fine...

Yall have gotten too sensitive on pitch count. How big a difference is 100 pitches to 123 to his body? Not much

A lot. That's nearly 25%.

There's a reason MLB, with the best pitchers in the world with the best builds for pitching, has adopted the universal cut off of 100 pitches.

Nearly all of the LSU lineup was built through traditional means. White is the lone exception. Beloso is actually a 5th year and the catcher is a 4th year kid. Rare. But this team wasn’t bought. But the most important piece was a transfer.

Some of y’all continue to overestimate ate the portal and NIL in baseball. You have to build a program primarily with Evals and development. Thats why we suck.

Bullsh*t. Best pitcher and elite hitter who aren't even on the radar unless both Marucci and the immediate portal eligibility are in play. That's two huge pieces. Not to mention the 2 Vandy guys Little and the guy that went pro.

They are straight up buying players, there's no way around that. They are a regional team at best without Tanks and Skenes.

LSU definitely has the new model in the new era if you have the money and fanbase to support it. I feel like msu fans would do that for baseball more than any other sport which is why it's disappointing we aren't killing it on the transfer portal for pitchers

I'd be more concerned in this heat pitching him that hard right before draft. He goes out later this week and does the same thing snd his arm goes out bye bye pay day. This close to draft I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize that. Unless lsu is paying me nil and told me I have to.

And when he left UT scores immediately. LSU can enjoy WF w/o Skenes Monday night.
I'm still not completely sold on WF this year....yet. Florida is looking like the most complete team and seems to have the "magic"

But what do I know? I'm an MSU baseball fan********

It's also only 23 pitches....his body can handle it occasionally. In the CWS. If he was worried about it and his pay day, he would take himself out.

It’s 23 pitches at the end, while fatigued.

But what @Trojanbulldog19 is probably the deal, when you take big NIL money….we’ll, you reap what you sow. I’m not extending any sympathy for the mustached bandit who bailed on Air Force duty.

But Skenes and White are the only ones producing. Little is not good. The rest of the success is home grown. I think 8 of the 9 in the lineup have been at LSU. The saturday starter and closer are recruited HS kids. People keep overlooking that. But I said Skenes was the most important piece. They did exactly what you want. Eval, recruit, Develop And then try to find 1-2 impact transfers.

Not to mention NIL was not really a factor with a Skenes. In fact the returning roster was a huge role in his decision

The Stanford pitcher that threw 156 pitches in the Super Regional says he’s just getting warmed up at 125

The real question is what do they do if they lose to Wake? They would play on Tuesday then, right? Do they bring Skenes in if things are tight on 72 hours rest after throwing that much?

I mentioned that about Skenes and Tanks. That’s still a large part of their team. The Vandy guys just help illustrate the trend, corroborating evidence.

LOL at Skenes donating. It’s like $10 a K.

Yeah I took that out bc it’s really not relevant. He chose LSU bc of the studs they had coming back and Wes Johnson. But that lineup is strong even without White. That program was built well and they pulled 2 studs. Whe someone acts like that team was primarily bought and paid for it’s really misleading.

Our issues aren’t NIL or portal. They are coaching staff. Plain and simple.People continue to try to convince themselves our issue isn’t that. Its a woe is us attitude to let Lem off the hook for some reason.

I never said anything about a comparison to us. I agree NIL/portal isn’t our problem.

But LSU has absolutely taken advantage of the current ‘era’ of college sports. And I agree that NIL is overblown in baseball. But not when you have Marucci.

The reason MLB does that is not the reason you think it is, although they say it is for folks dumb enough to believe it.

They do it because analytics show that going to the pen early vs letting a starter go through the lineup a third or fourth time is more effective. They want shorter, max effort outings instead of longer, 80% effort outings. They want specialists They want to shorten games and it's analytics driven, not concern over arm health. It's the same reason they don't extend relievers anymore.

If they cared more about arm health, guys like Jacob deGrom wouldn't be on his second TJ surgery because they only want him throwing fastball/slider. If they cared about arm health, they would instead have him throw more changes and curves, and he'd be healthy and going deeper in games. If MLB cared about arm health, they wouldn't expect pitchers to pitch winded because of a pitch clock. MLB teams want outs.

You'll be along shortly to call me an idiot, which is the goat way. But per usual, you are out of your depth on this subject.

Skenes was pitching on 6 days rest, by the way. And he had 7 days rest prior to his last start. 123 pitches is not a big deal if he's doing his side work correctly and it's safe to assume he is. But we have a lot of folks criticizing coaches without understanding the process.

Yep....he could have thrown another 30 pitches just fine. I bet he would have too...if they let him.

We sure are. CJJ is the portal master. Best team money can buy is a bit of a stretch. I would love to buy a better SS than Jordan Thompson.
