Skyline scored early and often in securing a 38-7 victory over Fauquier High School in Warrenton Friday Night.
Zayden Burks (17 carries 250 yards) took the first play from scrimmage 72 yards to set up and first and goal from the Falcons 7. He finished off the short drive on the next play with a 7 yard touchdown run, and the Hawks were up 7-0 only 45 seconds into the game.
Skyline held Fauquier to a three and out, which led to the Hawks second scoring drive. DayShawn Haley connected with Marques Lockhart-Wright twice, and Brady Lupton once to add some diversity to the attack. Burks also had 3 carries for 25 yards on the drive, which eventually stalled at the Falcon 20. Tristan Walker made it 10-0 with a 37 yard field goal with 4:16 left in the first quarter.
Fauquier got one of their only first downs of the night on their next drive with a 21 yard reception by Cameron Kubinski. But two plays later, Caydin Jenkins came up with an interception for the Hawks to give Skyline the ball near midfield.
Haley showed off his elusiveness on the next drive, scrambling twice for 29 yards, the second time setting up first and goal from the 4 yard line. Lockhart-Wright took the direct snap and walked literally untouched into the end zone to put Skyline up 17-0 with 11:11 left in the 2nd quarter.
After another Fauquier three and out, Skyline mounted another scoring drive behind runs from Burks, catches from Lockhart-Wright and Jenkins, and a final QB run by Haley from 9 yards out to put the Hawks up 24-0 with 4 minutes left in the first half.
The Falcons again could not secure a first down, giving the Hawks one more chance to score in the first half. Burks had 3 carries for 42 yards including a 10 yard touchdown run on 3rd and goal to go to put the Hawks up 31-0 with 22.1 seconds left in the half.
The 3rd quarter was scoreless as both teams moved the ball, but could not finish off drives. Skyline added their final points with 9:06 left in the 4th quarter as Burks ran it in from 7 yards out to put the Hawks up 38-0. The Hawks rested both their offensive and defensive starters the rest of the game. The lone Falcons touchdown came with 2:19 left to avoid the shutout.
