Re: Asking for an extension with six years left? NFW. I would have agreed to a raise - but not an extension. Good for Kraft; I’m sure this didn’t help things behind the scenes…
If true, Kraft was closely watching the team's performance during games 1-3 vs Cupcake U's. After the team not showing up for Q1 - Q3 vs Oregon, I suspect the Kraft / Franklin relationship started to get tart and then puckered after UCLA.

There has been plenty of evidence that Todd McShay has some personal beef with CJF. That's one guy in the media.

There is also plenty of evidence that hundreds and hundreds of players and their parents who personally knew CJF - absolutely loved him.

I think I'll throw McShay's opinion on the scrap pile of "I don't care what that guys says".

Edit - great minds apparently think alike and type at the same time Midnighter! LOL
I agree with Midnighter--the truth likely lies in the middle. Definitely wouldn't dismiss either side.
For the record, not all the guys who played under Franklin have spoken highly of him. It's always interesting to see what people think with the benefit of hindsight as well.

I have some information that has bearing on this. I am unable to share at this time, but bombshells are coming. Some will look better, some worse.
Quit the cute crap. Just post what you know, factual or not, under one of your many monikers, else you will soon be known as the next goofy State College guy writing Sharpie notes on the front of local newspapers.

If you can’t say exactly what, at least say who will look better and who will look worse.

So - maybe asked for an extension and when he didn’t get it aimed higher? I haven’t read any premium articles on this…

But, something rotten in Denmark for sure - may explain *a lot* this year.

Reading a bunch of stuff over the last few days and thought I'd try to put it all in one thread until we get to the truth. I think we can all agree this isn't all about 3 losses in a row. You just don't make that move to a guy that has the 4 most wins in the last 4 years that just went to the semi final. So, here is what I have thus far:

1. Franklin requested a contract extension summer of 2025.
2. Kraft wanted to use $$$ resources to basically buy players and James wasn't on board with that and wanted to be more careful with how the money is spent.
3. JF was an arrogant fella and it finally caught up to him.
4. JFF and Kraft had a huge argument in the locker room in front of the team.
5. JFF after game reaction, he knew it was the end. Was he told going in to the game that this was happening?
6. Adidas paid off the buyout because they wanted him out prior to the season and before the contract was signed.
Gonna just say, lots of folks were tired of the CJF routine. Winning helps fill unbuilt stadiums with lots of unsold seats…….

Treat everyone as you would want to be treated…….

One can also assume by the end of UCLA Kraft was tired of hearing about it from those who have deep pockets and vested interests……….

1 other thing I will toss in and not that it really had any bearing or maybe it did... JF just looked tired at that last presser. He looked worn out. Going forward it will be interesting to see if coaches last longer than 10 years at 1 school and if so how effective they are still.... It's a meat grinder anymore.
Not sure what the current longevity is for D1 football head coach, but I'm guessing that CJF was well beyond it.

Some people that are deeply involved with the program. Key players, high rollers, supposed boosters that have ties to other programs. Deep covert stuff.

He's mocking @Tom McAndrew after what TMc wrote over a decade ago. Barry has unresolvable issues.
Uh.... Obviously, that's not me. You should know better.

TM has of course allowed him/her/they to "impersonate" me, for years. I don't know why he allows that, but "not my monkeys, not my circus", so c'est la vie.
But I would think most board regulars would know that by now.

Wasn't it rumored CJF did the same with Barbour and the BOT for his last extension? If so, then he went to the well one too many times and Kraft wasn't having it.

My apologies. It makes sense now.

I agree that someone shouldn't be allowed to fictitiously post under your name or a close derivative thereof. ..... that used to be a banish able offense under the old board rules.

This would explain a lot of the crazy no calls on holds that prevented sacks/turnovers. Something really weird there.

This isn’t Barry Fenchak you’re replying to. Edit: I see the actual BJF has said the same. I’ve called out this fake Barry several times over the years, to no avail, as you can see.

Nate Bauer said that Franklin wanted a re-negotiation and extension over the summer, but the University declined.

A list had been published in USA Today about CFB coaching compensation and Franklin was somewhere around 17th or 18th. Franklin felt that given the program's finishes over the past 3 seasons -- 7th, 13th, 5th -- that he should be paid as a top-10 head coach.

This is obviously a very slanted POV. While no one can dispute the simple fact about those poll finishes, Franklin's perspective is conveniently ignoring his failure to EVER win over quality opponents.

I'm neither endorsing nor denouncing Franklin's case, nor the University's decision to decline. Merely adding context to the situation.

I was told yrs ago by someone who works for RSPN that he was one of the biggest pricks to work with. I heard some of Mcshays comments yesterday about things he's witnessed and things others have told him that have gone back for yrs.

Sources tell me that someone is going to be hired to be the head coach. Some will be shocked, some won't at all. It'll happen within the next 1-100 days. Sources also tell me that that coach will be making adjustments to the staff at some level. Meanwhile, and this is the most interesting piece of information, the football team will continue to play football, starting this saturday at Iowa.

look... i'm as shocked as the rest of you at this revelation of breaking information, but we all need to keep in mind that we all need to be either happy or angry about all of this, and do so with calm and vitriol. It's what's best for everyone involved.

Sources told me that regardless of who is hired, it will be the coach’s wife who will make the final decision!

Sort of funny. SIAP somewhere. This is not an endorsement for Rhule. The Nebraska QB, Raiola, actually said in a press conference that Rhule isn’t leaving NE because his wife, (who I believe is also a PSU Alum) owns a hair salon in Lincoln. So, there is some proof to your theory.

I completely buy this, and put the cap on it at about 2026-27 to where the deal would either get renegotiated or he would bolt for a raise.

He should be paid more than 17-18th, but I also understand not negotiating in 2025. He will almost certainly be a top 12 paid coach now, when he is hired elsewhere, and the buyout will be mostly, if not totally, mitigated.

I think he and Jimmy miscalculated Kraft's level of buy in. Their thought process works fine with a Sandy Barber kind of AD, but Kraft is maniacally devoted to winning

Somebody tell Kraft we have a hoops squad, too.
