It's what you do outside the classroom and in the real world that counts. That is where "smart" and "dumb" are really exposed.

Great point but I think if I gave 120% in high school I wouldn't have gotten into an Ivy or Stanford. Very impressive group of kids but playing a sport undoubtedly helped get them get admitted.

Sure, but I don't know what that has to do with these students athletes and where they are going to college.

Agree with you Dr. "Book" smart will only get you so far. What seperates some of these kids is common sense. I see plenty of people where I shake my head and say that kid is the smartest idiot I ever saw. Unfortunately the current generation is lacking big time in common sense. I do a lot of interviewing and hiring and its amazing how unprepared these candidates come to an interview. They can't even do the simple things like dress for success.
Okay we got way off topic, back to football.

Excellent post Corey. Nice to see someone gets it. I agree totally with everything you said here. I didn't give much thought to the job interview. But you are right on there.

Amazing how many folks on here have advanced degrees, letterman jackets, dean's list creds, etc. (and love to flaunt it) Could be the smartest board ever?

Well...my intention was to shed light on a nice accomplishment for 5 young men who will have the chance to get a great education at 5 well regarded institutions...not open up a can of "every generation is worse than the previous."

Yeah...it really could.

Then don't consider them possibly "the smartest team ever?

Yeah, some flaunt it and others say it as a matter of fact when making a point.

Congrats to these students for being able to balance what appears to be great academics with probably the most demanding sport high schools offer. Congrats to the parents as well, as I'm sure they enjoy having a discounted rate at those universities.

Why turn what was just a nice post about a group of kids who are doing well into a weird rant?
What is weird is assuming that because some students get better grades in school than others it automatically makes them "smarter" than the others. It's doesn't and that was my only point. If the thread had been titled "Possibly the highest G.P.A. Ever?" Then he would have had something.

I just think it is naive for people to believe good grades in school (the land of theory, especially in higher education) automatically makes one person "smarter" than another.

But, with that said, those kids and their parents are proud, I am sure, and should be congratulated.
