it is very disturbing to see. I still can't believe there weren't more people killed. It chills me even more to know it missed both your parent's and my Mom's house by a fraction.

I told my brother again today on the phone that I thank God every day he and his family weren't at home when it leveled their place.

miss Mom & Dad. Didn't quite hit them either. Their house is livible but they probably have 15-20 k damage (uneducated guess)on the house, more on the property. They were still EXTREMELY lucky. Two reasons there weren't more killed I think:1) long warning time. It was something like 30-40 minutes. The warnings on TV were as strong as I have ever seen too. They scared people and saved a LOT of lives. We were watching it online too. The radar echo just screamed strong tornado. 2) A lot of people were still at work and weren't in town. Most of the people killedwere either stay at home women or older people. Another one died today by the way. That takes it to 15 in town and 16 total in the county. It's stilla miracle it wasn't more.

It would be freaking me out, even if I felt I was safe, just because, like they mentioned, the debris was already indicating it was destroying things.

video you are seeing the tornado as it was over Smithville. As it comes into view there it is hitting the first part of town that it killed people in. The lock house there is a very substantial cast concrete structure. It's bottom floor and stairwell are really like a bunker. Those guys had a pretty handy bolt hole. They were a lot closer than it look though. Damage path was probabaly a mile away at it's closest, before that video starts.
