Bears have won their last 3 games, and their defense has allowed only 20 points. Smoky has been on a roll. The Bears won at Smoky 31-21 in the first matchup. Memorial Stadium should be packed, and that should be the difference! Bears win by 7.

I was really happy to see this match up. That means one of them will come to Erwin next week so it's almost like a traditional mountain game in the 2nd rd of the playoffs. As for the game I think Pisgah takes it by two scores.

I'm going with Smoky. Just a fan using the eye test, but they looked better to me than did Pisgah when they beat us.

I think Smoky is currently playing the best ball of anybody in our conference. I hope we take it but I believe we’re going to be in for a fight even if we do. This game is a toss up to me which is what a 16v 17 matchup should be.

Smoky has to relish the chance to knock their old coach out of the playoffs.

Our offense has to produce better this week and can’t put as much pressure on our defense.

This has the makings of a great ballgame. Not sure who I’d give the edge to. All the old cliches apply, turnovers, field position, etc. one thing I will say is Smoky’s kickoff coverage was definitely lacking vs us. This could play a part in the outcome if Pisgah can exploit it. Coin flip game for me.

Smoky probably better than when we beat them but so are the Bears. I agree this should be a really good first round game. Playing at home ,Bears by 10.

Maybe Memorial Stadium should have been packed, but I will be generous and say about 40% of the seats were occupied. Football in Haywood County is not as big of a deal to the communities as it once was. There is always the big game, but outside of that there are a lot more empty seats than there use to be. Congrats to Smoky. Dominated the line of scrimmage. Impressive results the last 3 weeks. Beat West by 19, Franklin by 21, and basically Pisgah by 20 as Pisgah scored with 26 seconds left against a soft defense Smoky was playing. Will be interesting to see if they can run the ball on Erwin.

Smoky will be able to run on Erwin but Erwin will score fast and often. I look for a 45-24 kinda game. Jmo

I think one of the reason for the smaller crowd was because of the shutdown of the mill. Going from 30-40 bucks an hour to 20 makes a difference.
Erwin will win by 20.

Yes, I think Erwin wins against Smoky in almost every scenario. Smoky needs long drives that end in points every time. I think Erwin will score almost every possession so if Smoky misses an opportunity it will most likely result in a 2-score swing. As I said elsewhere, I believe Smoky is better equipped to have a chance at winning this game than we would have been. They have been better at consistently moving the chains and getting points from it.

How is Smokey's pass defense?

They are more than solid against the run but we were able to pass on them pretty well both times we just couldn't score the 2nd meeting. Also, our RB and yours are two different varieties entirely so that could look different against their defensive front. Whoever is at RB for you will have more twitch and breakaway speed than we had at that position especially if you all have "Milky" back. I believe for this week, if you get the ball into the hands of your play makers, you'll simply be able to "out-athlete" them on enough plays to win.

They sound like a really solid team. Erwin will have to play well to beat them. I was really wishing Pisgah won that game. It was always fun playing them seeing that the two schools are so close together. Their fans on here are all class acts too. If you guys have Friday open you should drive over to Leicester and hopefully see SM get paid some payback for last Friday. Lol

We might ride over but I haven’t made up my mind for sure. I will say that I think Postell has really maximized the potential of that Mustangs group and has built a very solid unit out of them. It seems like once he left Tuscola that’s all he has done is get the most out of whatever talent he’s been given at both Smoky and East Gaston.

I'm with you guys. If Pisgah can improve their ball control and find ways to sustain drives, it will not only provide their defense with the rest it needs but also help establish a rhythm that can wear down Smoky's defense.
