Given this news, who else up there (north) might come out early? I'm gonna say Sowell or Patterson would be equally worthy.

his job(or something like that), he figured what the hell.....might as well take his chances in the pros. I can't imagine him being drafted very high.

He's a QB who can get it done on this level. I'm glad he's leaving. Any Reb who's happy to see him leave is lying to themselves.

If he gets drafted and does well, what does that say about Nutt and his QB development? I guess ole Mama Mustain knew something after all.

Was Mackey recruited to play QB or was he recruited as an ATH? If either he or Cotton are the guy next year, what are the anticipated changes to the scheme?

I read daily how he would suck anyway, and we'll have no weapons or line around him, so what's it matter? We'll probably look a hell of a lot different on offense for sure.

That said, Snead did have the potential to come back and be great. Our other QBs don't have that potential. Can they be serviceable, and at least start the learning process they'd eventually have to go through anyway? I hope so.

I was told back about mid-season that Jevan was really unhappy in Oxford. Not that he did not like Ole Miss, but rather that he did not like the size of the community. Basically when the wheels were falling off the National Championship season, Snead could not go anywhere in Oxford without someone approaching him and armchair QBing. Said that every Ole Miss fan felt they could grip to his face about his play. He got tired of everyone knowing him and his business. I was told at that point the decision had already been made. Basically this Ole Miss Alumni who knows the Sneads said that if he got anything near a halfway decent offer, he would take it. He never got the Oxford bug like Eli did. I think his feelings on the town along with the Ole Miss fans calling for the next QB, he has decided to get while the getting is good.

That hurts the Rebs because he can't learn the system early. UM losing Snead, Hodge, McCluster, Trahan, Hardy and I believe 3 O-lineman will bring them back to reality next year. They'll be ready to throw Stanley and Cotton to the wolves by Mid September.

Eli's senior year. If I remember correctly, and I was hanging out in Oxford a good bit back then, Eli wasn't really considered a god until that 2003 season.

Starting QBs are going to get the glory or the criticism at any town they are in - big or small. And if he really were so sensitive about the criticism, why would be be in such a hurry to get to the NFL? It's not like you can fly under the radar as an NFL QB. If this were true, he picked the wrong sport and the wrong position. He should just quit. If he were unhappy, it's because they weren't winning like they were supposed to.

Edit: just realized you said Ole Miss person said this.

It was not the criticism that bothered him, but rather the fact that there was no wher to go to get away from it. Said that he basically felt he was confined to the football facilities and home. In the NFL you live in a big city and when the season is over, you get the heck out of said big city. This person is a die hard Ole Miss fan who has no interest in taking digs at the city of Oxford.

When I say the Oxford Bug, I mean that he never really got into the whole social scene of Ole Miss like Eli did.

Mackey is being recruited as an athlete. I expect to see him primarily next year in the Wildcat. The Wildcat should be a much bigger part of our offense next year if he is what we think he is, because we'll actually have a passing threat out of the formation.

Cotton is not as much of a dual threat as people think. He's an athlete, yes, but he's supposedly a quality pocket passer, not just purely a scrambler. We'll see who wins out on the job, but one thing Nutt has shown is that he's been able to find a way for his offenses to move the football over the years. He's definitely willing to adapt.

Interesting. Rosebowl made it sound like his passing skills were worse than even Relf's. And this was before his recruitment became a State/OM battle.

his best WRs were Chris Collins and Bill Flowers, and his best ever tailbacks were Joe Gunn, Trumaine Turner, and Vashon Pearson.

Snead was the QB of teams to win more games per season than Eli, yes, but when we lost games with Eli, it was usually because of his supporting cast, not him.

Not knocking Snead, because Eli is a true stud, but Snead was nowhere in his ballpark. Put Eli on our 2008 and 2009 teams, and those seasons would've been much better.

and his recruitment wasn't a State/UM battle. I know this will draw the typical remarks, but we really did back off of Cot-ton.

Snead is better physically than Eli but Eli absolutely did not get rattled and had the best feel for the pocket I've ever seen.
