SNL was actually good for a change this week. Baldwin's Trump

was probably the worst part. The Grim Reaper playing Steve Bannon was great. That broad's opening monologue about Trump's obsession with Robert Patterson (Pattinson? The Twilight dude) was classic. Celebrity Feud was even good this week. But Melissa Mccarthy playing Sean Spicer might be the best thing I've seen on there in years.

I haven't seen much of his press conferences...but that was funny...especially the props - Moose-lambs.

She needs to become regular with it, like Baldwin's Trump.

It was better than usual. Melissa McCarthy was fantastic. I think SNL is blowing it with Trump. First they harp on him way too much and secondly most of it just isn't funny. Darrell Hammond was better at doing Trump than is Alec Baldwin but they use Baldwin because he's a bigger name. They go after Trump just to go after Trump and in the process they forget the first rule of comedy, which is "Be funny."

Now and then they have a good Trump joke but mostly they're just wildly flailing. Trump's most amazing ability is to get people to just react instead of think. That makes Trump look bad for awhile but eventually it's going to get stale and if in the meantime the country is doing okay Trump is going to start looking like a sympathetic figure.

I think their problem with Trump is they try to just use his words verbatim and try to cram 2 weeks worth of headlines in to a 6 minute skit. Kind of saying he's so cartoonish we'll just let his words/actions do the work. I think they should pick one headline and make him more cartoonish.

Comedy is very subjective which I think we all can agree. I found this week's Trump skit to be excellent and the satire was perfect. Unfortunately, I find the skits to hit reality of the guy in an over the top manner. I rather have a president in which the skits were more fictional.

I agree. The Trump skits are list-y. They compiles a list of bad things Trump did in the last week and make sure they mention every bad thing in the list. It comes off like the point is to hit Trump rather than be funny. Instead they ought to look at all the stuff Trump did in the past week and figure out which of it they can put a funny spin on.

Melissa McCarthy's Sean Spicer thing was hilarious and partly because she did it so well but also partly because it was stylistic. They didn't just get Sean Spicer text and have Melissa McCarthy read it. Actually it was somewhat similar with the Trump thing this week, where he'd be on the phone with a foreign leader and pissed off and say "We're at war with you" and slam down the phone. The Trump sketch this week was better than usual. Hopefully that's a trend.

We just lived through 8 years of fictional skits coming from the WhiteHouse Press office.

Can we all call you butthurt about it?
You can if you want. A. it's a Saturday night and watching TV on a Sat. is not what I would call a successful weekend activity. B. If you enjoy it, watch it. Norm Macdonald leaving the show about did it in for me.

I watch the snippets posted from time to time, but I haven't actually "watched" the show in a long time. I like some of the guys and what they have done away from the show, just don't really care for the actual show. Has less to do with political position than it does with it not being funny.

What is it with Trump and Spicer? They love to dish it out but can't take it in the least little bit.

"White House Press Secretary and precious snowflake Sean Spicer isn’t a big fan of satire, and would like the show’s writers to stop being so “mean.”

Gossip site Extra reported on Sunday that while Spicer may, in fact, have not watched Saturday Night Live and caught the sketch featuring his hostility toward the media (Spicer argued he was unaware until after leaving church on Sunday morning), he did think McCarthy should “dial back” her mockery. He also said Alec Baldwin’s impression of his boss was “mean,” and that the show was “unfortunate” in having a “streak of meanness” in place of humor."

If only there was some place they could put all the clips for people to see. Oh well.

Boy this thread has turned silly.

Yea, I'll watch the links if they are posted but I don't actively search them out. Kind of my point.
