Snow storm of the decade is on the way

Since I've been in school Starkville has missed it every time except whenever I leave to go home or travel somewhere.
Hattiesburg will get three inches of snow. Jackson will get some sleet and Starkville will get two inches of rain. That's just how it works. Now if they had said the oposite then Starkville would get hit with the white death. I leaving for Waco Texas Sunday. I hope it stays away.
I love the weather and I find in fascinating, I was a meteorology major for a while, but I hate all these meteorologist who try to predict weather months in advance and talk about which regions will get more rain, snow, colder, hotter, ect. It's all BS. The other day my dad was listening to Rush Limbaugh and I was in the car so I tuned in and he had this hot shot meteorologist/climatologist guy on there and he said not to expect it to get colder and for January to be well above average temps, and we will probably only see one more storm in the NE like we had last month. Well looks like unless this is the only snow event and cold event of the season for the south and lats major storm for the NE, he's going to be terribly wrong. And with more wintry weather in the forecast for just this week, I would say he's wrong. No one knows what's going to happen outside of about a 72hr span. And that came straight from a professor's mouth in the geosciences dept here at State. Hell, on Christmas in NC we were supposed to only get a dusting to an inch and maybe see some fluries or possible light snow showers late in the afternoon. Turns out it was literally a white out by 11am and we ended up with 5 inches of snow.
I'll get off my soapbox now. With that said, I hope Starkville gets hit by a blizzard.

After Katrina we were supposed to be a in a cycle and see a lot more bigger storms and impact the US and that simply has not happened. This past season we had 20 something named storms and it seemed almost all of them veered North once they got above Puerto Rico.
But I heard someone say the forecasts that state how many storms will hit the US are a load of crap. They do a fair job of guessing how many hurricanes we will have. Where the hurricane will hit is usually not known until a couple days out. Nobody in New Orleans was getting out of the way when it looked like it was going to be a Florida hurricane.
All of those idiots on the radio and TV are only trying to make a quick buck. Some of them don't even have degrees. It's completely ridiculous, and over the past 10 years, it's really gotten out of hand.
However, there are ways to predict months in advance that are actually slightly accurate in terms of overall patterns that will be seen. But usually 8 to 10 days is about as far out as you can go without getting too crazy. There are some good teachers in the MSU meteorology department, and they do a good job of keeping us in check in terms of not letting us go too far up the wall in futurecasting.
Winter forecasting is usually theseason that brings the "climatologists" out of the woodworks to tell us we are all going to die because of man-made global warming. It's always snows because of global warming, whether it's due to heat or cold, and that's just garbage.
I'm proud to have a meteorology degree from MSU, but I'm not proud at the way some people in the media try to spin things to make themselves look good. Off my soap box now too. And by the way, this storm is going to be sick. I'm in Alabama, and we could have freezing rain accumulation. Not going to be good Sunday thru Monday in Alabama.

My uncle lives in St. Elmo, CO? I think it's called St. Elmo. Anyway, he's at like 11,000ft or something. Drives a snowcat to get to the road that's driveable if he's going into town in the winter. I went up there once and the snow was literally up to my chest.
Not nearly as severe as your uncle's place, but I have been late for work on a couple occasions due to getting stuck in my driveway. More cold than snow here. 20 below zero on New Years Eve.

They now have National Hurricane policy that forces Large Fans to be strategically used to make the storms turn North in the Atlantic during the season. Also they drop Dry Ice into the Storm using ex Soviet Nukes to keep the storms in check.
They tried Black Helicopters but they are usually busy doing other secret stuff.

It could get really ugly around the Golden Triangle/Aberdeen area, possibly up to 8 inches, that the atmosphere is "perfect" for this type of storm right now...I have my own disbeliefs towards the amount, but take it for what it's worth...Said that he is going to call after his meeting this afternoon with the Natinal Weather Service.
the temperature in starkville is 62, that's incredible. Huge changes are coming, and I'm pumped about this winter storm. Holy shnikeys.
