So 10 games in, how much have we improved on defense under Lebby?

2024 Defense -Dead Last. 456 ypg (including non-conf). 34.1 ppg /SEC - 39 ppg

2025 Defense YTD – 14th overall. 389 ypg (including non-conf). 26.3 ppg/SEC – 36 ppg

The improvement from last year definitely showed-up in the non-conf games and the one SEC win.

But who did Lebby really add to the DL from last year? Bledsoe and Whitson? Everyone else has been a bust. We simply do not have any SEC caliber DL. And for LB’s, all we really have is Mitchell (perhaps Tillman), which is an even bigger problem in a 3-4 scheme, and why hutzler’s gotten zero pressure on the QB in SEC play. If Lebby doesn’t take the portal seriously we will continue to get pushed around next season.

And to add a little more perspective, here are the same stats from ZA’s defense.

2023 Defense – 9th overall 351 ypg. 26.6 ppg/SEC – 30 ppg

One more tid-bit. Taylen Green is the 4th overall SEC QB in total yards (YTD – 2372) and UPIG is the 3rd overall offense @ 484 ypg. But they’ve yet to put-up a W in conf. play and are dead last in defense giving up 430 ypg, 33.3 ppg /SEC 38.2 ppg. My advice for lebby is the same for petrino.

Would I like a better QB…sure, a better OL, hell yes, but not the first place I’m spending my $. This team needs winged assassins more than anything.

I mean we have improved some but I don’t think we are close to where anyone would feel good about it long term going forward. Will Whitson shouldn’t be the sack leader on the team and he hasn’t played since the first half of our second game.
