So, anybody think we could get Bobby Johnson?

but Johnson doesn't get enough credit for what he has done at Vandy. It would make me nervous if he went to State. That tells me he would likely do well at State.

Thought Croom's 3 3-win seasons were bad? Try Johnson's 3 2-win seasons at Vandy.
Then he goes 5-6 with an NFL quarterback, including a loss to Middle Tennessee.

I know it's hard to win at Vandy, but 20-50 after 6 seasons isn't good anywhere.

Johnson's record in his first 5 years at Vandy was actually equal to his predecessor's 5 years, so it's not like he made Vandy any better.

He hasn't ever been to a bowl game because he loses games like the one we lost Saturday. They've had teams in position to have successful seasons, and they choke it away against ****** teams.

Why is there the perception that Johnson is a good coach? If he were THAT damn good, would he still be at Vandy?

They have never had a coach that got hired away from them, at least not in the last 20 years to my knowledge.

Sure he's had some bad records but consider where he's coaching at and how much that school actually cares about athletics, especially football. They've had coaches with Super Bowl rings go in there and have losing seasons.

Yes they've lost to MTSU but they've also beaten Tennessee in Knoxville. When was the last time we did that again? At least MTSU is division 1, unlike Maine. Vandy has been much better the last 2-3 years than in the past. If you don't think it takes a substantial amount of time to build somebody like Vandy up to even mediocre standards, you're retarded.

The last coach we've had who ever went on to another college job was Darrell Royal.

When our coaches fail, nobody here wants to hear excuses for them. If Croom had not gone bowling last season, everyone would've (rightly) gotten pissed that we had a coach that couldn't lead us to a 6-6 season by year 4, regardless of how bad it was when he took over, how low our budget is compared to the rest of the SEC, etc.

Why does Bobby Johnson get a pass and excuses from everybody?

He was courted by other programs for the past two years, but declined feeling that he would slip in after Bowden. If Clemson does not win the ACC and get to a BCS bowl, look for Johnson to be their top candidate.

The day we hire this guy is the day I quit being a State fan. Thats not saying i couldnt see it.....but that guy is terrible at about every measurable level. Plus, I think Tommy has proven that those guys didn't inherit too much.

I really think State should take a page out of Ole Miss's book circa 1994 and hire a young up and coming coach like Tuberville '94. The only thing that I would change would be hiring someone with HC experience, like Chris Hatcher.

One mistake I think we made last time was LT was looking for someone to lead our team for 25 years, so we hired someone who was relatively up in age for an inexperienced HC. Of course, the other mistake was hiring someone with no HC experience, but the fact is a school like MSU sometimes has to roll the dice on someone and hope it works out. With the exception of last year, it hasn't worked out. We need to make our next hire with the idea that the next coach will succeed and then hopefully leave the program in good shape when he gets plucked up by Oklahoma for example, for doing well after about five or six years. Getting someone with HC experience would be nice as well, but not necessarily something I would expect, like the baseball HC, and I would be very open to hiring a OC or DC with good potential.

We've had someone since Royal haven't we that got hired away? Ellis Johnson did, oh wait he wasn't labeled as the head coach. Sorry.

My picks for the next HC would be Tommy Bowden, Brian Kelly, Chris Hatcher, and Will Muschamp

He has been out of coaching a while and could provide a new energy to the program.
