Seems kinda stupid to give up a scheduled home game to go to a neutral field. What benefit outweighs the $$ lost?

from ESPN:

Auburn is moving its 2026 home game with Baylorto Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta as part of an arrangement with the Aflac Kickoff Game to provide NIL opportunities for Tigers players, a first in college football for neutral-site games.

The Peach Bowl, in coordination with the Aflac game, will provide opportunities for promotional appearances for Auburn players promoting ticket sales and ancillary events.

I don't get how this helps...

But, MSU used to sell our Home game with Florida, to other cites in Florida. Like Jacksonville and such.

I hate this type of stuff. CFB going away from campus is a negative for the game
It's actually making College football great again. Taking us back to the Jackson home game days and selling our own home games for monetary gain so that way we have more program money (rebranded as NIL now).

It worked so well that from 1959 to 1985 Mississippi State scored 0 points in Starkville against Alabama.

Another fun one from 1953 to 1957 we lost one game to Alabama in Tuscaloosa. We lost 0 in the state of Mississippi. There were 5 total games played across those years.

I hope this is a one-off but like in the movie Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money - it's all about the dolla dolla bills yall.

So am I following that this allows them an extra $5 million in NIL that will get automatically approved by the clearinghouse?
I would think they could’ve found a comparable amount from local alumni to keep the game at home, but you have to admire the creativity in trying to maximize their funds for recruiting.

I like how people think alumni/boosters have endless amounts of money. Unless someone is Elon Musk rich there is a limit for everyone. Even yellawood.

State needs an OL for Taylor in the worst way. State better sell a home game and get them 5mil for an OL.

I’d like to see what these NIL opportunities are. Generally I don’t like these games.

Oh I don't like neutral site games either but... may be a necessity
Rev share will go down as one of the dumbest decisions ever made by these commissioners. Putting the schools on the hook for all this money is retarded. I don't care if TV is bringing in big money. That money should be used for school improvements and upgrades for fans, etc. That 'brand' is driven by the schools/programs anyway, NOT the players.

If the boosters want to pay players, let them do it. They are the ones who started this 'market'. It sure wasn't legitimate companies, at least for the majority. That's where we messed up. NIL should have been legalized after the SMU fiasco.

With only 30-40k showing up, State should do this.
We did that for several years during the 60s and 70s. All the "good" games were played in Jackson, with only the homecoming game with powerhouses like the Richmond Spiders being played on campus. As a student, it sucked. I don't go to games now but it would still suck for students. I hope we never do that again.

After all, sports are supposed to be primarily for the students to unwind after a week of intense studying. ** We even had to pay for tickets to the games in Jackson, while the game on campus was included in the student activity fee.

Well said. What college sports has devolved into is a shame. I'll guess that at some point in the future, maybe 5 years, football and basketball players won't even be required to be students. At least baseball and relatively minor sports, like golf and soccer, are hanging in there.

Could you imagine scheduling all your good games at neutral sites, hours away from campus for decades?

Yeah, CFB from after WWII until the mid 70's can't be judged the same. You had unequal conference schedules. Some teams would play 8 conference games and another one would play 5, then there was no alternating home and away. Check out these State schedules from the late 50's. This was real fair.

For Example 1955 MSU SEC Schedule. 1956 1959
@Tennessee Florida @Florida
Tulane @georgia @georgia
@kentucky @Alabama @Tennessee
@Bama @Tulane @Bama
@Auburn @Auburn @Auburn
@LSU @LSU @ LSU
Ole Miss @ole Miss Ole Miss

It was like this all throughout the 50's, 60's, and early 70's.

Not saying it wasn’t a dumb decision, but it was largely out of the commissioner’s hands. It was the settlement terms of a federal lawsuit.
