Ole Miss has enjoyed a period of 10 yrs of "weak" leadership at MSU following the departure of Dr. Z. During this time of turnover and turmoil in the MSU presidency, Ole Miss secured significantly more funding from the legislature than otherwise would have been possible if MSU had strong leadership. It is to Ole Miss's advantage to continue this trend at MSU.
The cigar boys who are known by most as Templeton's puppetmasters, have enjoyed MSU as their personal playground. They are happy with the status quo, so long as they get to smoke cigars, house their planes at MSU, hang out in the skybox, name buildings after one another, etc....
These two factions represent significant money which in turn represents appointments and subsequent representation on the college board. These groups joined forces to support Dr. Watson and everything was on track to remain very much the same. However recent events have cast serious doubt on the viability of a Watson presidency which leaves us with Dr. Keenum and The Ole Miss guy Miller. We have to ask, what is it that both of these groups fear so much about Dr. Keenum? Might strong leadership, vast experience with politics, possibility of a long tenure with stability for the University be a wonderful thing for MSU? We need to continue to discuss this topic and ask why would the Ole Miss factions and the good old boys be so against a Keenum presidency and what is best for the overwhelming majority of MSU fans, alums, students, and professors.
