one would think.

So who else could we get? The obvious choice would be Keenum and if Meredith screws this up, his "exoneration" is over.

Scott Ross? Meredith?

I am sure Watson wasn't the only guilty party in this deal.

Both he and Meredith need to go immediately if this State and the IHL want to maintain ANY credibility. Did I just say that?
Maybe they need to sign the same Honor Code that incoming Freshmen at State sign.

Keenum and the guy from Wichita State who has season tickets to Ole Miss. Can you tell who Gene is supporting?
Dr. Mark Keenum - MSU alumnus and former MSU professor who still attends MSU games and tailgates whenever he gets the chance. His wife is an MSU graduate. His kids are being raised to be MSU and Bulldog fans. He has run a government department that has over 26,000 employees with a budget that is over 30 billion dollars. He has cleared senate and house committees numerous times when selected for government jobs and there has never been even the slightest thing found that would throw up a red flag.

Dr. Gary Miller - Received his Ph. D from MSU and worked there for three years. Worked at Ole Miss for 14 years. Has been a Provost at Wichita State for several years. Does not attend MSU games despite being a graduate of Mississippi State. His wife is not an MSU graduate.

If he used his position of power and influence to spend 12,000 taxpayer dollars on a personal favor that would advnace his career, then why does he not deserve this ****?

You have two groups vying to control the President's slot at Mississippi State. You have the "we always want to be sucking hind tit to Ole Miss and picking up their sorry-assed scraps" faction who wants Gary Miller. Or

You have the "we want Mississippi State to be a top-notch State University" faction supporting Mark Keenum.

If we didn't have to go through the IHL, the choice would be easy. However, the same group that gave us Stuttering Charlie Lee and thought Doc Fogelsong would be a bad choice for State (turned out, he only pissed off college professors who deserved to be pissed off, for making them actually work), now want to give us our next President.

Prediction- If Miller is selected, the first thing coming out of his mouth will be, "RRRRRRRRR UUUUUUUU Ready????????" followed by metal detectors at every entrance to Davis Wade Stadium, Dudy Noble Field, and all dorms to confiscate cowbells.

just like you could write a ticket every single day to thousands for speeding, but only a few get caught. Watson is vying for the presidency of a major university. It is completely expected for any dirt to be dug up on him.

But you have to admit, as political as our Pres search has become, and given the fact that this happens all the time, the timing of this miraculous discovery that occurred 19 months ago is a wee bit odd. I'm not saying the deed should go unpunished, but that ought to raise a flag. Couple that with the report that Ross was approached by two faculty members and had to turn in Watson... it just makes the whole thing a little suspect.

The first part of your response is a perfectly legitimate answer. I was under the impression that Watson offered the free service to Meredith to get in his good graces. If Meredith told him to send the landscaping crew, he was still wrong to do it, but it's hard to tell someone above you know, so it's hard for me to fault him too much.

However, the argument that it happens all the time shouldn't make it acceptable. Taxpayer money isn't there for the people in power to get free services. Just because everybody else is doing it doesn't make it right.

there is someone (or more likely, a group) that doesn't want Watson to be the President, and they made sure this got out. This shouldn't be a shock.

that Frank Melton took a sledgehammer to some crackhouse, but its clear the Fed Gov't does.

The bottom line is that people are going to get in trouble for things that not all of us really think are bad.

a university president actually be an academic and understand why the university exists. I don't understand why Mark Keenum would not fit that paradigm. I am a professor at a much smaller private college than MSU but this would be my concern. The other candidate certainly has worked in academia longer than Keenum, but Keenum was in government so it's pretty close.

that people of authority think are against the law. My point was that i don't really care that Melton tore down the house just like you don't care that Watson did what he did. Either way, they may be violative of the law. There is plenty of stuff that doesn't harm you or me or anyone for that matter that is against the law.

Ole Miss has enjoyed a period of 10 yrs of "weak" leadership at MSU following the departure of Dr. Z. During this time of turnover and turmoil in the MSU presidency, Ole Miss secured significantly more funding from the legislature than otherwise would have been possible if MSU had strong leadership. It is to Ole Miss's advantage to continue this trend at MSU.
The cigar boys who are known by most as Templeton's puppetmasters, have enjoyed MSU as their personal playground. They are happy with the status quo, so long as they get to smoke cigars, house their planes at MSU, hang out in the skybox, name buildings after one another, etc....
These two factions represent significant money which in turn represents appointments and subsequent representation on the college board. These groups joined forces to support Dr. Watson and everything was on track to remain very much the same. However recent events have cast serious doubt on the viability of a Watson presidency which leaves us with Dr. Keenum and The Ole Miss guy Miller. We have to ask, what is it that both of these groups fear so much about Dr. Keenum? Might strong leadership, vast experience with politics, possibility of a long tenure with stability for the University be a wonderful thing for MSU? We need to continue to discuss this topic and ask why would the Ole Miss factions and the good old boys be so against a Keenum presidency and what is best for the overwhelming majority of MSU fans, alums, students, and professors.

Meredith received stolen property and services (you are right). That means they were stolen by someone other than himself (Watson stole them by illegally providing them for free so you are wrong).
