Way, way, way overrated. I’ve eaten there a couple of times in the last year+. Very average.
The catfish at Frisco Deli in Pearl is far superior to Middendorfs.
Like our baseball team, it is not what it once was.
Paul’s Cafe in Ponchatoula is a good place for some southern cooking.
Only eaten at the one in Manchac once, Slidell once and I’d definitely go back to Manchac but it’s been a while so it may not be what it once was ?
Southside Cafe in Slidell. Get the Irish Channel Gumbo. From their menu, "A levee of our homemade potato salad with Chicken & Sausage gumbo on one side and Seafood gumbo on the other."
I've never been to one in Slidell but family says its not the same. I've never had a bad experience in Manchac
I was going to recommend Southside also, it's been a few years since I've been but everything on the menu is outstanding. Very cool place too.
I don't think anything has changed except maybe they added some more jarhead memorbilia
I was just down there this weekend, only to find they're not open on Saturday's anymore. When did that stop?
Ended up at Paul’s Cafe in Ponchatoula.
Fried catfish was good, red beans and rice ok - as a girl from Thibodaux once told me - “why would I take the time to make red beans and rice when Popeyes has the best”
Wife got the Wednesday special of roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. Would not get again.
Loved the ambience of the place though and “downtown” Ponchatoula.
Do we really want to debate the best catfish in the Sip? We will be here all night.
Sign me up for Carmack. But it all comes from the same few places. If there’s one thing MS is the best at, it’s catfish.

If you like burgers Times Grill in Mandeville is good. Not too far off of 12.
Oh, around Kosciusko and Winona, there is also a never-ending debate about whether Carmack or Guy's is the best. I'm sure that battle will keep raging as well.
We started going when it first opened (late 70s or early 80s). They had food truck coming to Carrollton on Monday's I think, but I've seen them there in a while.
@DAWGSANDSAINTS you should try Two Sisters Creole Kitchen or Lester's Seafood where Don's used to be. You can't go wrong with either one.
