are leaving the program. I feel certain Collins and Miller were encouraged to go elsewhere, but Im not certain.

The Rawdow departure hurts. That means we have to have Frazier, Lewallen, and Pitts step up or else we will be starting Ogden and Frost up the middle. That will hurt.

I also heard (head, not read) that Sheppard will go if he drafted.

It looks like Bracewell is out for 2011. Murray said "iffy" but Im hearing nearly a solid year of rehab.

He hit something like .260 this year. Unless he just loathes Cohen or college, another year under Cohen's tutelage could do wonders for him.

and the scouts likely don't care what he hit in college. After passing up 200K last year, I doubt he passes up anything this year. The chances an improvement in his hitting will equal an improvement in signing bonus are not very good.

We pitch a freshman knowing he's hurt, and since wewaited so long for him to have the surgery, he could very well miss all of nextyear.

What part of thisdecision-making processmakes sense?

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but he didn't like his 11th round bonus from the Dodgers I assume, and came back to work on his plate discipline. The situation seems somewhat similar, except that Shepherd has great speed.

maybe they didnt want him to have surgery unless it was a last resort? Automatically assuming the coaching staff made this call by themselves is mind-boggling to me

from very early in this season onward. If that was not the case, it wasn't laid out very well at all in the things I read.

Still, that doesn't deal with why we were throwing a freshman when he was hurt and the season was in the tank. If you were trying to avoid surgery, you would think the best thing to do would be shut it down and focus on some therapy.

If his parents played some role in this, then there's plenty of room to question them as well. Equal opportunity situation.

I doubt he'll get any more this year than he could have gotten last year. He'llprobably get less. I looked a few weeks ago and the seniors in the draft consistently got about half the signing bonus of the other players drafted around them.

on this we agree. Pitching this kid however was Bud Kilmer Cohen's decision and obviously the wrong one. And he gets a free pass, that's mindboggling.

is paid by the MSU athletic dept. and knows that if he doesn't give the answer they're looking for, they may just find another doctor who will. Team doctors (both college and professional) are notorious for nothaving the player's best interestat heart.

were good about holding out the injured. Jackie, in particular, didn't pressure team doctors. I seriously doubt Polk did either.Remains to beseen aboutCohen, although pitching a kid that immediately needs surgery certainly raises question. On the other hand, Routt sat all year, so who knows? Maybe it's a case of one kid insisting he was ok(with a Dr doing what you suggested) and another kid being a little smarter about it. </p>

he develops a reputation for this type of thing, if he is indeed doing it. He would get a bigger pass from me for losing games b/c he was saddled with a bunch of injured pitchers who couldn't pitch than by forcing injured pitchers to pitch. Especially when the season is done anyway.

Bianco has left a pretty long trail of ruined arms in his decade in Oxford. Bertman had a lot at LSU too.

First of all, Rawdow is probably the most overrated player that we have that people think is good.

Here are his numbers- .256, 0 HR's, 8 RBI's, and a .962 fielding percentage and 1 stolen base

Here are Sam Frost's numbers- .248, 0 HR's, 13 RBI's, and a .934 fielding percentage and 4 stolen bases.

Very similar numbers. That's not to say that I'm happy that he is leaving, but it's not like this we're losing an All-American here.

As far as Ben Bracewell and pitching him- his injury was congenital- it was something he was born with. It was known about in high school. He was told that he could keep pitching with it by a MD that was in Alabama and that is not affiliated with MSU, but that they would keep an eye on it and that if it caused him problems, then they would do surgery. Obviously, that is the case here. I'm not sure about his rehab because I don't know what the exact problem is, although I have heard that it was something with the biceps. It may be a year of rehab, but it's also just as likely to be something very minor as well.

Jared Miller is a project but has some potential, and I wish him well. Corey Collins sucked as I predicted (Hey, I've got to take credit when I can get it)

Rawdow is leaving because he had his scholarship pulled. I also wish him well.

That said, I can't defend Cohen on Nick Routt. We better hope that he is better after messing with his delivery last year.

you might be able to add Manieri to the list very soon after seeing what happened with Renaudo and Ott.

Cohen was lamenting the loss of Rawdow this year as one of the injuries that hurt us.

And now he has no scholarship.

The problem with Rawdow is not that his some great player necessarily but that it cuts down on the competition and depth in the middle infield. Do we not all agree that we really could have used him this year?

I also think that this goes back to what you said about bringing in guys like Frazier, Luwallen, Pitts-although he likely ends up at catcher, DeMarcus Henderson, and Taylor Stark as well as having Sam Frost all on the roster at the same time. Not to mention Ogden and maybe Vickerson as well. Of course, I think Vickerson will get moved to the OF or DH, but we'll see.

I agree that more competition = better for the team in the long run, but if someone can read the writing on the wall, I can't blame them for leaving.

If there is one thing I've blamed on Butch, it was screwing up Nick Routt and messing with his delivery. I mean, I've mentoned that at least five times and probably more during the season.

and regrrdless of much as Gene keeps saying he's talked to Lewallen about it this week (and Lewallen has said how excited he is about state), I will believe he is coming to State when he gets there.

Why is he going to PRCC? He claims to have the ACT score.

Based on what they "think" their GPA is. Once you start throwing out courses that the NCAA doesn't count towards the 14 course credits, all of a sudden the GPA you thought you had, and the ACT you needed, is vastly different than the ACT you already have.
