I guess he didn't ask Chris Garrett how that worked out for him.

As I've often said about Chris Garrett

That turned out to be God looking out for MSU much moreso than Chris Garrett.

We'll see with Mix.

This is spot on. I have heard and read too much negative about Mix's performance on the field to lose any sleep over losing him. Hopefully it won't hurt us with south panola in the future. I don't know how it can get any worse with us and south panola, but you get the idea.

True. Even when he was committed to us I was just hoping that didn't keep us from signing Tyler Russell. Definitely worked out good for us.

anybody else think we dropped him?

especially with everybody talking about how poor of a performance his senior season was. when it came right down to it, we dropped him to have room for a now or later signee.

the other reason i think this: of course he was going to say "God (or whomever/feeling) led him to Blank University." he's not going to say "MSU dropped me." that would embarrass the **** out of him and make everybody think he's not good enough.

Perfect example... Irvin-Sills. it was obvious we were holding out on him to see if we got the Alexanders. We didn't so we offered him a something he could commit to. he said "I talked to him (Coach) and thought about my decision for a few hours. Then I just felt like Mississippi State was my place to be at" as if he always had a committable offer from us.

Or maybe Mix is saying "straight cash homey" right about now.

Don't think we dropped him but if he had not been somewhat marginal I doubt we would have had coaches go off on him about visiting somewhere. Would have probably treated the situation a little more sensitively. And I really doubt Mix was worth doing anything too out of the way to get even if it was Auburn.
Believe it was as simple as Mix deciding he didn't want to play under Hevesy, end of story.

Who cares?

From all accounts someone on our coaching staff 17'd that up for us, so why should we give a **** what the kid says is the reason for him choosing Auburn over us.

If we did, we wouldn't have sent Townsend and Hevesy to try to talk him back into committing. I will say that Mix didn't have many options and is why he committed to State. He didn't have an Ole Miss offer as he tried to claim. The only reason Auburn offered him was because they were trying to sign a full class and he was a decent prospect.

Exactly. This 1 is On Hev no if,ands,or buts about it. I wouldnt give a **** if Mix said he went to Auburn for better fish stick variety at the grocery store. It's not relevant.

Bottom line is that he would rather play for Coach Grimes than Coach Hevesy.

I agree. I just thought it was funny that he threw the God reason out there. From what I've heard, he's probably a little overrated and not a huge loss. But he's definitely an inexcusable loss.

Well Mix looks good in the recruiting rankings but the fact that he decommitted from us and yet OM wouldn't even give him a second look (given he's a USP kid) tells me all I need to know. Still would have liked to have had him but it wasn't a huge blow to our program to lose him.

Hell no we didn't drop him. He was Dandy Dozen, 10 Most Wanted....

And was all Bulldog until our coaches pissed him off 2 weeks before signing day. I don't care what any of you say about him being soft, not worth a ****, or whatever. He is a HUGE young man and could develop into a great offensive lineman. We wanted him or we wouldn't have tried to get him back in the fold. He's a South Panola kid, he was one of our biggest recruiters during the whole process, and he wanted to be a Bulldog til then. Tell yourselves what you want, but we basically threw this one away. And it hurts not only because we lost the kid but lost an inroad to South Panola that Auburn now has on it's side with Melvin Smith to boot!

but the guy is a project at best. Im sorry, but many people said he couldnt block anyone all week at the MS/AL Allstar practices. Dont look for Mix to see any significant playing time in the SEC until his redshirt junior year.

But because we screwed it up, now we have to sign about 4-5 o-linemen in our upcoming class which is probably going to be small. If he provided depth, even that would have been helpful.

that's a bit of a stretch.. we can't lose something we've never had. Mix wasn't going to change that either. Townsend being on staff makes a bigger impact on getting an in-road to USP than Mix ever would/will.

but lost an inroad to South Panola that Auburn now has on it's side with Melvin Smith to boot!

Not necessarily. If Tobias quits, we lose 3 OL this year (Smith, Trapp, Hardy). We just signed 3 (Thomas, Clayborn, Flowers). Then next year we only lose 3 more (Sidd, Jackson, and Holley).

I don't know if we dropped him or not, but I finally know more about Dan's thought on commits taking official visits to other schools.

Go to HailState.com and listen to the press conference that Mullen gives about signing day. Somewhere in there (don't know what time), a reporter asks him his thought about recruits taking other visits. It might surprise you after hearing what he said.

The more you know....
