So do you think we saved the cowbell tonight?

From the tv broadcast, it seemed like the fans did an excellent job of ringing only at the specified times. Even the ESPN guys were commenting on how well the rules were being followed.

If the Arkansas game is the same as tonight, have we done enough to get the SEC off our asses? It seems like the ESPN announcers are on our side about the issue. If they are taking notice of us trying to follow the rules, then they can really paint the SEC front office as a bunch of ******** if the bells are taken away this year.

We never had a chance at this thing no matter what we did. We think that all we have to do is not ring cowbells to interfere with the huddle, offensive play-calling, and when the offense is lining up for a play. The SEC suckered us into a standard of only certain specific times. So if the Bulldogs make the big interception or the big sack, and the fans ring cowbells to celebrate, it's a violation in their eyes. We'll get a $50k fine slapped on us for the UK game, no question in my mind.

There is no way to fine us this week. Did you not watch the game. The fans obeyed the rules.

or start taking some anti-depressants. I believe I've seen two posts of yours tonight, on the heels of getting to 7-2 no less, and they've stated the following:
 • the best bowl we can possibly hope for is the Chic Fil La, and we're more than likely bound for the Music City b/c the SEC and bowls hate us somuch- and -
 • there's nothing we can do to save the cowbell b/c the SEC hates us so much

i understand our history, but if you can't enjoy the good times and let down your defenses every now and then, then why the hell do you bother following the team anymore?

I'm thrilled to death with how we're doing this year and am very proud of my school and team. But I just want to temper expectations of how we'll be treated. The good thing is that it's not going to be any slight to this football team and its unbelievable season if we get snubbed in the bowls. It's nothing we can control. If we go 8-4 and get a Peach Bowl invite, it will be a fantastic result. But trust me on this, any 7-5 SEC team not named Vanderbilt, Kentucky, or Ole Miss will always end up higher in the pecking order than an 8-4 Bulldog team that didn't win the SEC West.

There were of course a few random ******** (and dubmass kids) ringing while we were on defense, but for the most part, our fans actually rang responsibly. When you think about it, it's really not that hard....just don't ring when we're on defense. Ring any other time. I really have to give it to our fans for stepping up and acting like they give a **** about the future of one our big traditions. I think if we do as well as we did tonight against Arkansas, the bell is back. It's all up to our students and fans to get it right though.

I was at the game and it was completely different. No reason why we should lose the bell if we keep it up.

This whole thing was set-up against us from the beginning. Welcome to the dark side of being in the SEC. Nobody backs down to programs minting the dollars.

There were just a handful of people ringing them in our section during play. I thought that people would not heed the warnings put out by the athletic department about not ringing but people actually listened.

...pro-slavery, Satan-worshipping Holocaust deniers for one simple reason...our schedule includes home games against Alabama and LSU and there's no way they want to come into a hyped-up DWS with cowbells ringing.

In my area the Fans did a great job except in the last couple of drives in the 4th quarter. Big board came up and asked to respect bell and they got for the most part back in line. If we get fined this week it will be complete horse SXXX. We did as good a job as you could ask for. I also thought AD and staff did a great job with Big Board on additional info. I had been on that was hard on them all week for not stepping up. They did along with coach, this board, news outlets, etc and you could really tell the difference in my area. I don't know about student section but in our general area people were focused.

If they go ahead and fine us this week then AD should bring out the lawyers......

Stricklin was on the postgame show at the Veranda, and he said Mitch Barnhardt (UK athletic director) made a point to tell him after the game that the fans did a great job with the bell and that he would have no problem telling other SEC athletic directors the same thing.

there are a bunch of people around the country that would havenever known about one of the more colorful traditions in college football. ESPN recognizes that the cowbells are aunique traditionand doesn`t want them gone...that was evident last night. The SEC would never admit it but cowbells are one of a very few interesing/entertaining traditionsin the damn conference. I think if we do it right against Arky we keep them.

I personally thought that last night's cowbell restraint was even better than what the SEC had hoped for with the rule. There were bells bening rung at inapproriate times, but not enough to even remotely be a distraction. It is great that the game was close, too, since it was very tempting to ring a bell during those big 3rd down plays in the second half. Hopefully we will hear something from Slive before the Arkansas game as to whether last night was acceptable.

And I'm surprised how loud it got in there without the cowbells. However, there are still several ignorant and/or defiant folks in the east side upper deck. I don't know if it's like that elsewhere in the stadium and hopefully isn't enough to make the SEC care. I suppose the stupid people will figure it out over time and the defiant people will finally get tired of people giving them ****...I hope.
