I don't think Kelly is a possibility for us, seems like he wants a bigger job. Just wondering how much Auburn could screw us over or are they looking at different coaches.

that Byrne is talking about. Everyone today thinks the "wide open" offense will automatically win you games when the No. 1 team in the country and last year's title winner were built on tough defense and ball control offense. In short, that means that they might go after Petersen but not Patterson and of course Leech.

and works for a good friend of his. I could be totally wrong, but I just don't see him turning down Greg and then accepting the AU gig. We will be just as competitive as they are money-wise and I don't think it's about the $$$ anyways with him. I think he wanted the Oregon job and now that it's not going to be available for a few years, he may reconsider Greg's offer. At least I'm hoping.</p>

but I think there are several things about the "wide open offense" theory.

First of all, here we are at MSU and we see people like Texas Tech, Cincinnati, Tulsa, and Hawaii going out and scoring 56 points a game- and you're going to win a lot of games if you score that many points- and there's the thought that we can do this to. And there is some precedent here- UK had a wide open offense under Mumme and they went from a team that was an easy win to competitive and started going to bowls with some consistency.

Secondly, MSU fans are tired of boring offense. Here's what we've had to endure- Rocky Felker's offense, Jackie Sherrill's three yards and a cloud of dust, and Croom's WCO which was highlighted by five yard outs on third and eight. We want to see some scoring. We want the scoring to be done by us.

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, I think our players want to run a wide open offense. I think that if we let our players do something that they want to do, they are likely going to work harder and execute it better.

Remember this, and this just dawned on me, Lowder wanted Petrino. Petrino will leave a place in a heartbeat. Tubby is from Arkansas. Could be in the equation.
