Do we throw a schollie at him now, especially if Wallace chooses TSUN? Also, for those who have seen him play, is he a D1 talent?

I think it's unlikely we get Wallace...there's better opportunity for him to start up nawth...Wallace isn't going to overtake Dak or Russell next year.

we're talking about recruiting for a potential 3rd stringer...at M-State...not exactly Quarterback-U ya know. Favre was a 3rd stringer and whomever we get this year will be too.

I said we are BACK to having to do that. I didn't say anything about doing that last year. And IF we could sign someone worthwhile they won't be 3rd string if they beat out one of the two QBs we already have. Realistically now though since we don't have any other JUCO options (given Wallace is gone) IF we sign anybody they will likely be a HS guy looking to RS and will only be called on in an emergency situation. If we resort to Williams though it will again be a guy who was WAY down our list. Maybe we get Liggins but I'll believe it when I see it.

You are really looking down on Mullen because we are having trouble pulling a big name 3rd stringer? Sorry, but that's just stupid.

yea lets just sign ONE pretty decent HS QB every OTHER year and hope for the best. Appears to be the strategy at the moment. Most SEC schools sign a QB every year, maybe not a 4 or 5 star type every year, but at least a guy who has a chance to play at this level. There are always transfers, injuries or academic issues than can cost you a QB and Favre likely transferring has been talked about around here since October. Our staff should definitely have put more emphasis and been better prepared in getting a QB signee earlier and not have to possibly resort to a walk on type (which is where this all started). No excuse for a guy like Mullen who has a reputation for developing QBs not to be able to line up a reasonably recruited HS QB this year that would come in and plan to RS but be available in case we get hit with the injury bug next season. And if we don't do that then I'm not "looking down" on Mullen but its definitely an area our staff didn't take care of our needs in recruiting. I know its been rehashed but Mullen now only has ONE QB on the whole roster that HE got committed to our program. I'm going to cool it though on this topic and see what what we end up with between now and signing day.

I saw him play against IAHS and Lafayette County. Short answer is he could fit into a west coast offense with short timing routes. Currently he simply doesn't possess the arm strength to make across the field or down field passes without lofting them. Maybe he grows into it.<div>
</div><div>A lot of the yardage came from the receivers. A pretty good bunch that got a lot of YAC. Robinson is the D1 talent on the team.</div><div>
</div><div>Don't let the user name and this question cause a 17 flinging fest; Why did no one answer the point made by maroonmania? Mullen had the reputation and history of recruiting and coaching some really good QBs. Why settle for a 3rd stringer walk-on when you only have 2 QBs on the team? Who else is/was Mullen after besides Wallace and Liggins?</div><div>

Dan Mullen has signed a highschool qb each and EVERY year that he's been here. It hasn't been "one every other year."

Year one: We signed Russell and redshirted him. From HS, Russell was the highest rated qb State has(maybe ever) signed. Let's face it, he didn't get here in time in year 1 to go evaluate/find another qb that would've been any better or fit his system.

Year two: We chase Cam Newton HARD. Everyone thought we had him, but we end up narrowly missing in late January. From there, with 2-3 weeks to NSD, we went HARD after Barry Brunetti. We thought we had an excellent chance to turn him from WVU. He was torn on what to do, but ended up sticking with and recommitting to WVU, about 1.5 weeks before NSD. As a last resort/roster-filler, we end up taking Dylan Favre as a project qb. Not great, no...but all we had left. Keep in mind, this is off a 5-7 year, where miniLee didn't exactly inspire blue-chip recruits to come succeed under Mullen, again after our 7th losing seasons in the previous 8. So, we NARROWLY missed on the future heisman candidate and also the #1 dual-threat coming out of hs that year, both All-Americans, as a team that had won a total of 34 games in 8 seasons.

Year three: We sign Dak Prescott early in the process. This was "Mullen's qb", number 1 on our board. The only one he ever went after hard last season. THE guy for us. The only other guy we even looked at was Kiehl Frazier, once again the #1 dual guy in the country out of hs. We never had a chance with him, and he signed with the National Champs and his hometown guy, Malzahn..

Year four: Some message board guru's are saying we haven't been going after a qb, "had depth there", "might not take one", etc. Answer me this question then...why have we pursued MORE qb's this year than in any previous year under Mullen? First, we go after Jameis Winston, the #1 dual qb in the country, and miss to FSU. No surprise. Then we go after the #2 dual qb, Anthony Alford and the #12 athlete, Jeremy Liggins. Circumstance takes us out of the running for Alford, and he goes with USM. Ok, hate we missed, and I wanted him badly. We ARE still going hard after Liggins, possibly as hard as we've recruited any qb since Cam, and we are saving a spot for him on our roster NO matter what else happens before NSD. From there, we see an opportunity to grab a diamond in the rough in Bo Wallace, which gives Russell a similar "style" backup. This is big because we can use Dak to specialize(much like Favre this year) and run the option, and we can evolve the primary offense to a more pass-oriented spread like Mullen used with Leak at Fla. It's alot more risky to evolve your offense in a major way if you only have ONE qb on roster whose style allows him to run it effectively, and signing Wallace would've given us two. The Rebs grab Wallace from us, allegedly angering Liggins in the process. Ok. From there, we've had rumblings of alot of potentially good walk-ons. Air Canada, Raymond Cotton, and Forrest Williams are all mentioned as possibilities. Cotton could potentially light up the SEC in Mullen's offense IMO, but who knows?

I DO know, for an absolute fact, that we will have a qb in this recruiting class. How good of one? I don't know. There isn't a ton of available SEC talent at the qb position in the southeast this year. Even Liggins and Alford aren't considered "can't miss" prospects as qb's, and they are the best two we had a chance at...

maroonmania, so let me get this straight you think that at some point a high school Sr. can come into an SEC school and "take" the job from 1.) a guy who played pretty well last year and who ACTUALLY has gone against SEC defenses or 2.) a 6'4-6'3 kid who redshirted and has pretty much been the only dual threat guy who was groomed for the starting job. Who has while redshirted, watched film, practiced against those said SEC defenses, scrimmaged WELL when seen? Really? Man, look I'm not trying to bash you but that's absurd.

at least two years. He is however worthy of a scholly IMO. He's a very smart QB (honor student 4.0 GPA)who can read defenses. As far as his passing skills go, he's is uncanny accurate on short passes and would be great for aspread type offense. He's not slow either. He does need to put on weight (6'2", 180 lbs) and gain arm strength but that can be done.

And I think he will signat lest one QBthis year. Give the guy more credit. He will get what he needs. Losing Bo Wallace doesn't hurt Miss State. I would rather have a Average HS guy that will be at State for five yearslearning the system then a guy who at most will only have three. Wallace would have had problems leaning the a new system and would be onetwo years behind. I am not a big fan of recruiting JUCO QB's. That is one position that has to be developed. Dan has brought in three QB's and has won 21 games with a plus 500 record. Ole Miss has brought in over the same time period at lest six qbs and has only won 15 games with a minus 500 record. I have full faith in Mullen! The rest of you Naysayers can kiss my ***. I refuse to be negative with Mullen on anything until the program falls apart. As of now when you talk about the greatest Miss State Football coaches three name come up, McKeen, Sherrill and now you can add Mullen to that.
