MSU has 2 QBs and 4 WRs. Eegads! If there ever was someone who should never ever ever never be a HC again, it is Croom!

Anyway, I like the coach speak I'm reading...me thinks Mullen is a homerun hire. He at least knows what it is gonna take to win in the SEC.

Five years of Croom recruiting and we have only four WRs, one of which was given a scholly as a favor to a buddy, and only two QBs, one of which was a walk-on and the other is nowhere near an SEC caliber player.

At an SEC school.

That's horrific.

1 promising safety - Charles Mitchell, you can throw Z. Smith in too if you like.
2 linebackers - Chaney and Wright (and Chaney really doesnt count because he wasnt supposed to be here this year)
MAYBE 2 or 3 promising D-linemen in Jackson, Stigers, etc.
2 promising OL - Sherrod and Brignone.

Everyone else on offense is a big ?. McRae is busted up. Robinson and a few others should be good (maybe Terrance Davis?), but that is it.

We are basically talking about 11-16 players MAX that appear, at least at this time, to be solid SEC caliber - on an 85 man roster.

"Our starting QB is a walk on."

All SEC fans will understand everything after that and you won't have to say anything else.

and what a hard time Mullen will have installing his offense with so few receivers.
I didn't even think about that. I wonder if Mullen got over here, looked at the roster of returning players...and said, "#$%^&*@!".

The WRs that will play in the spring game are Wilder (assuing he is still around), Clark, Robinson and Berry. I think they are going to have to play for both teams. Im guessing on Wilder so it may just be 3 counting Berry.

Im guessing Cam Lawrence will get plenty of looks at WR in the spring as we try to find a spot for him.

Don't forget about our pool of RBs.
Elliot is of course a question mark, but our big two (three) are good to go!
Will Mullen likely line these guys up in the I 20 times a game? Doubt it, but they ARE our athletes and play makers, so I expect them to be utilized all over the field.

Mullen specifically noted that Lawrence is a guy that they need to figure out where he best fits. (worst sentence ever)

...those 2 guys certainly look to be in the mold of receivers we just signed. Wonder if they'll get a look. And Bonner.. why the hell not. He's played every other position.

will the receivers play for both sides? Like backyard football when somebody QBs for both teams?

Yeah, Sly, keep telling everyone you left us in better shape.

Former Mississippi State quarterback Wesley Carroll, who starred at St. Thomas Aquinas, has transferred to FIU, the university confirmed.
Carroll, who was a Freshman All-SEC first-team selection in 2007, was released from his letter-of-intent after losing his starting job this past season and the departure of MSU coach Sylvester Croom. Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen replaced Croom.

Carroll is enrolled in classes at FIU, but will sit out next season because of NCAA transfer rules. He is eligible to play in 2010, which is the year after current starting quarterback Paul McCall leaves. Carroll will have two years of eligibility.

He started nine games his freshman year, throwing nine touchdowns and seven interceptions. After starting the first four games in 2008, Carroll was passed by junior college transfer Tyson Lee.

He helped St. Thomas to three straight Class 5A state title games (2004-06) and was named the Class 5A All-State quarterback in 2006.

pull people out of the stands and put them on the White team.

or we could use that old fart from the 91-92 spring game.

...I realize you are trying to empty the already 1/2 empty glass, but we'll have some very solid RB's going into spring training.

How can you omit the single strength of the team? The RB position. Dixon, Ducre' & Stallworth are very solid.

And I know this goes against everything OMLawdog believes about how Mullen will run his spread offense, but Dixon is probably our best receiver after McRae.

Dixon is a perfect fit to be a pass receiving HB in Mullen's offense.

Of course in the last three years, the most catches during the season by any Florida HB has been 14.

Im sure Dixon is much better out of the backfield than Jeffrey Demps though, so Im sure Mullen is trying to figure out ways to throw the ball to Dixon.

I actually agree with you that MSU has three very solid HB's going into spring training.

I think Delmon Robinson is your best WR after McRae, assuming he is healthy.

Of course I know Mullen will fit offense to the talent around him, but so far in the last three years he hasn't thrown the ball to the HB's that much, but Im sure he will come out next year in some variation of the Wishbone/Spread with Lee/Russell at QB and all three RB's on the field at the same time.

...up until now, you have made it your mission to try to convince this board Dixon will not, under any circumstances, fit into Mullen's Spread offense.

And I distinctly remember you predicted on this very board that Dixon will be such a misfit in the Spread, he will be benched before the end of the season.

Now you make a post that is a 180 degree departure from that.

I detect a boat load of sarcasm in your "come to Jesus" post about Dixon.

Either that or it's a simple matter of you being as nutty as I think you are.

Dear lord, did I just say that?

And ya'll are forgetting our top returning receiver other than McRae - maybe Stallworth will move out to WR? That's about the only way he touched the ball last year, and did a decent job. Not sure how he'd work lining up at WR, but may be the best option we currently have.

and a pretty good one at Gilmer, Texas. Had an awesome H.S. teammate in Manuel Johnson though that went to Oklahoma and has been awesome from day one. Tay Bowser, not so much. Maybe Tay can improve with some competent coaching this spring.

I've seen both of those guys around campus and neither one seems to be limping from their injuries. Wilder had a kneecap break after it got dislocated and he's been rehabbing. McRae wasn't limping any of the times I saw him, so that's good. Hopefully their rehab will get them going soon, but I'm not sure if they'll be back by the spring game.

No clue on Wilder. Regardless, I don't count on him until he actually proves he can catch a football, run routes, and run with pads on.

I can only wonder how long he's going to hang around with football. His professional future is in track and football is doing anything but advancing that career.
