I am thinking we slide just a few spots in each poll but I know a lot of highly ranked teams dropped at least one game this weekend

Lots of Top 10 teams lost this weekend. Indiana lost 3 of 4. We should remain in the Top 10 I think.

My guess is

maybe 1-2 spots. Preseason/early season rankings are a crapshoot to begin with. So many teams, including State, are tinkering with lineups/rotation/bullpens that dropping a game or two is going to happen. Basically, we're a top 10 team as far as talent goes, we just have to get everyone set. No need to worry with rankings right now. Plus, a series win over a tough Western Carolina team will look better in the long run instead of a sweep of Hofstra in terms of RPI and SOS

^^^^This. Trying different things with your lineup (even if it costs you a few games that don't mean a whole lot during the regular season) will make for a much better ballclub when it counts in the postseason. This isn't the BCS where the focus is undefeated. We have approximately 50 games left to play, and we are definitely going to lose a few more. These folks who panic every time we lose 1 game in a 3 game series need to find a different sport to watch.

Yeah, in a regional, Woodruff would have got the hook in the 1st. Cohen was seeing if he could work through it.

Doesn't matter. In our league the rankings take care of themselves when the REAL season starts.

To me Baseball America is the one I have the most respect for. They are usually pretty accurate. I think the collegiate baseball poll is the one that holds the most weight among the national sports writers though

A loss or two here and there does not necessarily have a huge impact on your ranking in baseball. Even great teams occassionaly drop games to bad teams, and Western Carolina was a good team.

I remember people freaking out a little bit over Central Arkansas last year. I told my brother that that was a good team we just played, and we did see them later. None of the games were easy against them either for them or us. I still think that was some BS that we had to play them in our regional, but it worked out okay.

As Ron Polk would say, "that's baseball."
