Hawaii now leaving for the Mountain West in football and the Big West in all other sports. So no more Boise, no more Fresno, no more Hawaii, no more Nevada. How in the hell are they going to be able to keep that conference together? They are losing their 4 best teams. I don't see how they will continue to go on, so I imagine they are going to either break up or move down a division.

The Sun Belt needs 3 more teams to get to 12 and become Conference USA-lite. They could try and convince La. Tech and New Mexico State to join, as it makes sense geographically, especially from La. Tech's standpoint. Maybe South Alabama could be #12, or if not, Appalachian State is seriously considering moving up to the I-A level as well. Could look something like this:

Sun Belt - Western Division
New Mexico State, North Texas, La. Tech, UL-Monroe, UL-Lafayette, Arkansas State

Sun Belt - Eastern Division
Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Troy, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, South Alabama (or maybe Appalachian State).

had BYU, TCU or Utah not left. They may have seriously taken the Big East's automatic bid to the BCS. That would actually be an interesting conference with 2 of those 3, Boise, Fresno, Nevada and Hawaii. Not only that but they would also be a 12 team conference with at least 6 competitive teams.

moving up. I could see La Tech in the Sun Belt, although they have always seemed more like a C-USA team to me.

So, I'll use your format with a couple of changes:

Sun Belt West

North Texas, UL- Lafayette, UL- Monroe, Arkansas State, Western Kentuky, MTSU (or USA for making geographical sense, but I would keep them in the east with Troy to have an in-state rivalry game.)

Sun Belt East

South Alabama (MTSU), Troy State, Appalachain State, Georgia Southern, FIU, Florida Atlantic

To me this makes more sense. New Mexico State would be WAY out there for any of the other schools, and like I said, La Tech needs to figure out a way to join C-USA.

Another school that they might want to look at is Jacksonville State in Alabama. And no, I'm not being tongue and cheek about that. They have a very good football program at the I-AA level. If I were them, I would also consider Georgia State because I think that program has a LOT of promise.

CUSA and the Sunbelt should disband. Take the teams in the same vicinity as the SEC and form a SEC Jr. conference. Actually have geographic rivalries that are meaningful. Here's how I'd put it together.

SEC Jr West:
Houston, Tulane, Louisianna Lafayette, La Tech (leaves the WAC) Southern Miss, Memphis

SEC Jr East:
Troy, UAB, Middle Tenn State, East Carolina, UCF, Georgia State (they have a big student pop.)

I think it would work, fans could actually drive to most games. There could be better combinations but I think it would be better than what is there now. Not sure what the name could be I don't think they'd appreciate being called Jr!
