If you want a list of compelling candidates for your job, we think any one of the following would be a great hire for your great flagship university of genteel women and aristocratic men. (And these are not in order of rank...any will be fine.)

1. Sylvester Croom (Must also include Woody McCorvey as OC)
2. Jim Donnan
3. Terry Bowden
4. Bill Curry
5. David Cutcliff Part II
6. Mike Dubose
7. Tommy West
8. Ron Cooper
9. Tyrone Nix Promotion
10. Lance Pogue with Bobby Hall as OC.

But I wonder if Malzahn would take the UM job. Look, that guy can probably have just about any job he wanted. It seems more likely that he would go to a bigger program. Why would he go to UM? I can just see him holding out for "the big one" and that ain't UM.

I say yes he'd take it. But I think he has to win as a hc to land the big one. But I could be wrong. HC at Ole Miss is a pretty big job.

or even more if they want. I think he would take it. What would he wait on? Florida didn't even give him a sniff last year. Georgia would likely head straight to Smart.

but, look what is posted above...he turned down Vandy. He obviously doesn't want a job with an inferior program. haha

that Vandy was throwing offers of $3 million around at Malzahn. Now that was just rumor, but nobody really knows what Vandy can and will pay so I guess it is possible. After the buyout and all I doubt Ole Miss would want to throw out $2.5 Million on someone with no head coaching experience.

The best thing he ever did was back out of that. If anything, the fact that he was headed to Candy shows how ready he is to be a ahchoo. I'm sure its fun working for Chizic and all but his gimmickie *** would have a hard time turning down om if they came calling.

State's success in recent years had come mostly when non-MSU connected administrators came in (Carl Maddox in early 80s, Greg Byrne recently) and a lot less when MSU connected administrators ran the show (Charley Shira and Larry Templeton for example). Administrators that are in charge at schools they come from are too much influenced by their alumni brethren to make choices that are best for the program. An alumnist thinks "who willbest fit into our 'image' " rather than "who will do what's best to win, even if it ruffles a few feathers among some in the alumni?" You need to hire someone who thinks past "Ole Miss Tradition" and towards how the game is played in the present.

Won't happen again. He is one of the 3 best off minds in the game.
