Is it really something you can puff your chest out about? I'm not trying to be stupid, I'm just trying to figure out what the motivation is to win.
Why not use it to play everyone and have a lot of fun with it? Ally Oops, half court shots, harlem globetrotters ****. I'm actually kind of serious.

Who remembers the outcome of any NIT exhibitions?

A championship is a championship. Besides 1941, and SEC related championships, what else do we have in the big 3?

(if they have anything left).A video of Dan Guerrerotalking about how we we're not good enough to be in the tournament should play repeatedly in the locker room .

This should not be about hanging an NIT banner. It should be about us making a statement to Mike Slive and the NCAA.

Didn't the Spoon win an NIT at USM? I seem to remember that it was a big deal. At least in the Mississippi news.

1. you make a statement that the NCAA got it wrong

2. you get to play against better caliber competition than the SEC west

3. stans gets to work on playing out of conference opponents in a tournament setting (DESPERATELY NEEDED)

I do.
I remember Saint Marys playingDavidson last season. I remember em playing SDSU as well. I also remember ND taking down UK at Rupp.
I remember everygame of our run to NYC from a few I remember blowing out Bradley with 3s and i remember Chucky 'stone hands' Rhodes on the baseline losing the ball. Not sure how any MSU basketball fan can forget theWVU inboundspass to the corner to end the game.

Why not play and play hard? It gives the team more experience. It gives MSU more exposure.
Teams from last year's NIT that have improved:
--Baylor
--Notre Dame
--SDSU
--UK
--St Mary's
--Florida
--Kansas State
--Georgetown
--UNLV

I cant think of a single negative for us playing and taking the game seriously. Not a single negative.
Osby needs minutes and experience. Riek needs minutes and experience. Benock...needs em. Turner needs em.
Work a little bit on positioning guys where they will need to play next season.

And perhaps second most important(next to actually trying to win something since, you know, they are competitive and the NIT isnt actually a joke)...let Barry and Jarvis play for as many more games as they can. They have been incredible college basketball players for us both on and off the court, no reason to dick around and play And1 streetball in their last few games.

There has never been a game they played that I didn't bleed for a win all the way through.

If that's wolley, so be it. I go by the statement than Fan is short for fanatic.

If the Dogsare in the NIT,it is my favorite tournament, this year. The NCAA tourney can go to hell. I have no interest in it at all. I will not watch any NCAA tourney games. I could care less about the outcome of any of them.

Or, maybe, "NITChampsvegas".

I did not know about the zip code. I can understand a banner and trying to make it out to be a bid deal for marketing purposes, but come on, a zip code? Ridiculous.

Where are "Standsburys" NIT banners huh? Horn had two players with hangnails when he missed the NCAA those years.

<doing my best C34 impression>

That is not a hard award to win. Every coach in the country is a candidate regardless of wins / losses or results. We have 5 candidates in the West alone.

I have no idea what Gene's Page is. I know you guys use him to put people down, Hopefully that makes you feel better.

If he is a pay page I wouldn't spend a nickle on sports chat. When I can get this level of childish intertainment for free.

Nice to see your education bucks well spent.

Your sheep graphic could have been less fuzzy, but I give it a 3 on the 0-10 quality scale for effort.

South Carolina won it two years in a row and look how much it helped their program.
Yep,they are one it didnt help.

...though they were in it last season and came into this season as a projectedNCAA team, until injury squashed that hope.

The NIT isnt a guarantee togreener pastures, but it is an avenue that is availible to take.

That was our year to hang the NITChampsville banner. We were Pittsnogled. WVU went on to blow out the team they played in the championship game.

Wasn't that team the first ever SEC division winner to not be invited to the NCAA tourney? We belonged in the tourney that year as well as WVU.

Exaggerate much? How about they win some games before we worry about that title game? Hell, none of them even made the NIT except for Kennedy.

Again, it doesnt guarantee future success...im not sure why anyone would think that. But it does allow a team to get postseason experience and more games played.

Geez, KState and Baylor went from NIT to excellent seeds in this year's NCAAT.

You could go back and forth on teams that built on the NIT and teams that didnt.

Point is- the NIT ALLOWS for more play and ALLOWS younger players to get postseason experience. It doesnt guarantee **** for the future, but that doesnt mean its meaningless.

Damn i love the overreaction from fans. A tournament where most teams are in the top 100 in the nation is not nothing.

But now that we're in the NIT, I want to win the damn thing. I mean, it is a respected tournament, not like the CBI or CollegeInsider.com crap that USM is playing in. Winning it would be something to be proud about. It would be a postseason tournament championship, which is something we have never won. I will, of course, keep it in perspective, but would still be proud and excited if we were able to win the NIT.
