What if some of these guys are too nice to fire the coordinators? Thinking if Hartline got it, he may keep Knowles around and Chesney may be talked into keeping the whole lot including Kotelnicki. Whoever it is, to really do this right they better get rid of all remnants of what we're watching now.

Brohm seems like a long shot. Jeff and his brothers Brian and Greg were born, raised, and went to high school in Louisville. All three played for and currently work for Louisville. Louisville seems like a final destination for the Brohm brothers.

If Rhule did (desperately) why agree to the extension now? Why not try to slow play it until the end of the season to leave the PSU job as a possibility?
In case NU crashes in the 2nd half of their season? Why not get a good security like Franklin did in ‘21?

Besides, what if his old buddy gave him word that he far enough down on the PSU list.

I'm sure "many" coaches want this job but is right guys who can succeed?
Because he wasn't being considered for it

They're just watching videos and reading things from other people who don’t know and then they pretend like they have connections. First it was Rhule now Elko then it will be someone else. It’s the beginning of November for **** sake unless it’s Hartline or another assistant nothing is getting done anytime soon.
Some of us said all along that it wasn't going to be Cignetti or Rhule. Hartline was a relatively recent change...during the bye week

I like the idea of Hartline except he doesn't have the head coaching experience. I find it hard to believe that the PSU job is going to go to someone without experience.

Mike Elko has less of a resume than Franklin. I don't know would make people think that he will be more successful than Franklin.
Serious question - what makes people think he would be “less” successful than Franklin?

I asked the Grok AI and it thinks Hartline as the most likely. It has Chesney and Diaz as 2nd and 3rd most likely.
If this is how it really plays out, it’s not the splash hire everyone was pining for when Franklin was fired. Make no mistake. This is a total rebuild.

I don’t know why anyone would be posturing for Brohm, unless they were a troll.

Jeff is a smart developer of QB’s and an innovative offensive-minded coach but even he saw how corrupt the B1G is while at Purdue.

Right and the ACC is a bastion of integrity.

Brohm would be my #1 choice if I thought there was any chance he would leave his current job.

Should make for a rather dull axe of a game
The annual James Franklin still has an axe to grind with MD beat down. Should be fun.

Cugnetti did. Franklin will never get the opportunity to do so at the CFP level.
I keep reading not to worry that a new coach can quickly turn over the roster with portal players to instantly be good again? Couldn’t Franklin have done that as well?

In the end it didn’t matter if it was Franklin’s guys or Portal guys. The common denominator was Franklin.
3 new WRs playing over Franklin guys.
1 new OL playing over Franklin guys,
1 new LB playing over Franklin guys,
1 new DE/DT with some playing time
1 new S (sort of) playing over Franklin guys
1 new DT playing backup role with some playing time.

I’m not sure I completely buy the narrative that Franklin didn’t want to use the portal and was only loyal to his guys.
😘😘

If I remember correctly from Rivals, Concealed Carry and PSU4U were claimed insiders for college football conference realignment and did seem to get some accurate inside info.

Mike Elko ; Texas A & M or Brian Hartline. Times a ticking. Kraft going after ELKO hard.
I've had a bunch of buddies bring up this point, is Hartline even in consideration for jobs anywhere else? Is the fact that we can't beat OSU a bigger draw to Hartline than it should be? Guys been an OC less than a yr, yes he's a good recruiter, but doesn't OSU pretty much recruit itself? Just food for thought, I'd personally rather have a guy like Campbell that has built something from the ground up.

I'm hearing it's Meyer, and he's bringing Hartline as OC, Day as DC, and 20 players from OSU.

All you "I'm hearing" guys are hearing precisely shiat... You're throwing every name in the book out there so at the end you can proclaim you were right.
I hear you!

Wonder if Franklin would rather wait and see if Maryland comes open. I would think Tech has an easier path to the College playoffs.
Having read the Terps board often over the years, that move would be comical.

At one point you’re going to be posting that Manny Diaz is getting the job. I am convinced that will happen. It’s a very PSU thing to do to go with familiarity and stability.
He’s not a Kiffin or Kirby Smart level coach at this point, but he would be good for 9 or 10 wins every year at PSU, and I think he has the potential to achieve more than Franklin.

I've said from the get go, I'd be fine with Rhule, Diaz, etc.. but agree not sure he gets to that "Elite" level that the next guy obviously has to.

Hartline has been OC and Co-OC for 3 years and was passing game coordinator before that. He has interviewed for WVU HC last year. No one has any idea how many jobs he has been contacted about already. With all these openings one would be pretty certain that his agent is very busy fielding calls. He has Urban Meyer backing him saying he is ready for a HC job. He has dominated recruiting and developed top NFL WR's like a factory. He has relationships with all the top recruits PSU is recruiting as well as high school coaches. If you want Campbell expect 7-8 win seasons which to me then asks why get rid of JF. It's a lateral move for PSU. Personally I would like Brohm, Hartline or Elko. Brohm may be tough to get out of Louisville his alma mater where his family is located and brothers coach as well. Campbell does nothing for me. He is another Franklin can't beat the good teams but will get you 7-8 wins a year, he already has 3 losses this year. For me he doesn't move the needle at all.

I agree. I would also like them to consider Chesney. He is a PA guy with 15 years of HC experience leveling up weak programs. The fact that he took over JMU after Cignetti left with virtually the entire roster and did well, speaks to his skill. Can he make the jump to D1 successfully is unknown.

I find it interesting that people are denigrating coaches like Campbell because Iowa St does not win at the same rate as coaches with infinite better recruiting and resources and try to extrapolate what their future performance will look like. There is no way to know. That guy people are looking down their noses at can make the jump to D1 and crush it given better funding and recruiting; you can also have coaches where all the resources for success are provided them jump to a rebuild and tank because the playing field changes in terms of recruits and resources.
