Great hires if they work out. I wouldn't call it a home run, but a solid triple. Getting Wilson as a DL coach is huge. I hope he makes an impression on Thompson.

would an OU grad leave his alma mater as a position coach and come to State as a position coach? Money? Experience? Hard to figure that one.

Kinda like having a beautiful woman in bed only to realize you gotta share her with another dude. Go somewhere where you can have your cake and "eat it" too.

He would be going from DE coach to DL coach. I know it's not nearly the jump that going from DL coach to DC would be, but it does give him the chance to improve his resume in that area.

Surely he is being offered a title like Assistant DC or Co-DC as well. Currently he is just the Defensive Ends coach at OU. That kind of move and a little extra money would make sense.

I think this would be a home run. I will be ultra wooly going into next season. Not like we are going to win 8 or anything, but damn this is exciting. Now we have some legit coaching talent to go with our offensive coaching talent. Torbush didn't go all Ron Cooper on us, but we all new he wasn't going to sniff the top of the SEC Defensive rankings.

but I guess we will pay both a decent salary and be co-DC's with one coaching DL and one coaching LB's.

that I don't think any of us want to discuss.
That he is being encouraged to look around.

Im purely speculating.

Frankly, I'd take OU's fired water boy.

from what we had. I'm sure the lateral move that Wison would be making is to add to his resume and broaden his working knowledge of defenses with a different staff. No different than a coach moving from one team as a LB coach and going to a DT coach someplace else, etc. If a coach has aspirations of being a head coach one day, he moves around and learns different systems, makes new contacts, etc.

These would be two great hires if it comes to pass.

He realizes Mullen can coach circles around Stoops and is "swimming to the boat." No, not really.

By the way, don't use the "swimming to the boat" metaphor with Diaz.

Recruiting to OU and recruiting to MState are 2 completely different animals. And Hendrick has proven he can get great talent to come to Starkville and can coach his DL talent into NFL caliber players.

was that he couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper sack.

He could recruit though.

under Jackie? Somewhere along the way, I missed where he came into play. I thought he was the guy that stirred up a bunch of **** by stabbing another coach in the back by lobbying for a promotion or something like that. Someone straighten me out on this.

Hendrick was the DL coach under Jackie before Blake who coached the dominant DLs during our "glory years." He left to be the head coach at some small school in the Carolinas.

I was working in the athletic department at the time and never heard anything like that. That doesn't mean it didn't happen, but it sure wasn't publicized if it did.

Greg Favors, Kevin Sluder, Alvin McKinley, Dorsett Davis, Ellis Wyms, Willie Blade, Toby Golliday, Ronald Fields, Ed Smith, John Hilliard. I know I'm missing several, but damn that's an impressive list in and of itself.

With apologies to The Bear: "If you have Co-DCs, you have no DC." Who's in charge? Diaz? Wilson? Who's style will the D have? Will we be a schizo D? Leaves too many questions for my taste.

I say all the reason more to do it Dan's way. The Bear's way sucked for us.
