So Jimmy Abraham's replacement is from Stephen F Austin and has no MSU ties.

Really weird having having neither Jimmy nor a MSU person in that job.

If no other position on the MSU campus needed a MSU person, you would think at least this one would.

I'm oddly ok with it. MSU needs new blood. Keenum is a rare case, but otherwise we need to clean house. Maybe we can change the culture that way.

Why does MSU need to clean house?

So we can move forward and onto bigger and better things as a university. When you get people that have deep msu connections you get things done the good ole boy way. To many back door deals etc that are not what's best for the university but for individuals. Plus I like people that are able to look at campus issues with objectivity and a different perspective based on their previous experience.

All of that to say, this particular position, I feel, needed a person with msu connections.

We interviewed State grads too.

But also opened up the offer to other qualified individuals. I don't think we hired someone not from State just cuz.

Sorry, no linkage.

Was told by two members of MSU "senior management" I ran into at dinner Thursday nght.

Funny thing, they were disappointed in the selection and some things about the process.

Not sure on official announcement timing. I assume there is some protocol between universities.

Sorry,I don't like it..MSU uses non MSU grads, frequently Ole Miss Grads,to handle legal work, investments, a,d many other services when equally or more qualified MSU grads are available to do the work..we are our own worst enemy in many ways

Same question here. Jimmy was absolutely top-notch. He and I didn't see eye-to-eye on all issues, but his results speak for themselves. It will be extremely hard to maintain the same level of success.

Dr Abraham was/is the man. He's certainly not a good example of needed culture change.

Didn't necessarily mean him, just MSU as a whole. I also don't necessarily mean we need a culture change but I saw a lot of "the way things have always been done" first-hand while I was at MSU. I think hiring outside candidates is a good way of keeping the university in check so I welcome this. Best example of what I mean is the athletic department... Best AD ever had no ties to MSU, his replacement has been around it forever and in a lot of catagories we've regressed back to LT's way of doing business.

So when you say "but otherwise we need to clean house. Maybe we can change the culture that way", you don't necessarily mean MSU needs a culture change. Got it.

Which raises another question. When you say "but otherwise we need to clean house", are you advocating massive layoffs at MSU? That seems like a rather harsh approach.

I see what you mean but...

Stricklin at least has had significant outside experience and exposure to different perspectives when he was at Auburn, Kentucky, and Baylor-- which is really what you need from a good inside man. With that said, I agree that outside perspective would be great and that it's something that MSU needs as a check on people doing things the way they've always been done.

Hey bud........

the dude is 22 and lives with his parents, somewhere on Long Island. He's told us this many, many, many times. Read his posts like you read something written by our kids. He's tolerable if you keep that in mind.

This isn't 2004 you moron. MSU has already cleaned house, it started with Doc Foglesong. Maybe you were too busy popping pimples in Jr. High to notice.

His father played football at MSU. He didn't go to MS because he...

got a basketball Scholly to SFA. He is 6' 8". But I get your post.

I met Jeff during his on campus interview. Extremely impressive and an outstanding hire. Asked him if he had any basketball eligibility left just in case we needed additional big body. No such luck.
