To me, that argument is little bit like the argument that the team that beat the team that beat the team that was #2 in the country should be ranked #1.
You just can't let one game, or even one series decide (I know decide isn't the same as stock going down) whether the guy is a good coach or not. </p>

decades and the Golden Child only has a 4 game lead over us -- barely hanging on to a SECT bid. We can do better.
All he has done at UK is win a SEC Championship. Mind you we haven't won one since 1989, but Cohen has no postseason success at UK and is in danger of missing the SEC Tourney this year. He built UK into a better program, but we can do better. I won't be upset by a Cohen hire, but I'd rather have a more proven candidate.</p>

...his overall season has. 11-13 in the league and on the verge of missing the SEC tournament. They missed it last year. They won the league the year before, and were terrible the two years before that. He is (I think) 58-84 in the SEC. I realize it's Kentucky, but like Storm, I think we can do better. They need to make the SEC tournament and be in the NCAA's for me to feel like he would even be a decent hire at this point. I am specifically concerned about the fact that their pitching seems not to be good. They had a 5 run lead yesterday and still lost. And our park is too big to rely on the constant home run.
but having a winning program at UK is still impressive enough and I still think he could do more here than the legend has done.
Simply doing more than the Legend has done in his current tenure isn't all that big of an acheivement.

Our "tradition" will allow us to take coaches from other D1 schools like Kentucky. Our "tradition" will probably not allow us to take coaches from the defending 2 time National Champs, like some of us would want to believe.
with our commitment to baseball he could do more then the legend in both tenures. I believe there are a couple more who could too.

In SEC play, they are 8th in batting average, 10th in hits, and 10th in RBI's, so their offense has slowed down drastically in league play. Their ERA is 5th in the league, while the opponent's batting average is 10th. Big drop off. I don't really know what to make of that. Their team ERA is still in the top half of the league, and their team fielding percentage is, too.
they got swept by Ga and by LSU. You just can't do that. Cohen has to be livid about this weekend. They lost the first one b/c their best player over slid the bag trying to break up a double play. That took a run off the board in a game that went into extras. And Sunday, they have LSU down to their last strike and walk the guy and then give up a 2 out 2 run homer. I realize you could probably find games they should've lost too, I just thought that was interesting.

Even if you write off his 7 win seasons in his first two years, he had one great season, and he was under .500 last year, and is sitting at two games under .500 this year. Hell, I think it's going to be Cohen, so I am pulling for Kentucky to catch fire and make the CWS so we can all feel good about John. But having a losing record in the SEC 4 out of 5 years ain't exactly building a "winning program."

I know Cohen doesn't have the resources at UK that Polk has here, but his recent records look an aweful lot like Polk's. I'm not downing the guy, he would be a good hire. He's a fiery guy that doesn't sit back and take losing with a "that's baseball" attitude. Also, he does what he has to in order to win. However, I don't think we should treat this guy like the Second Coming either.
one of the best seasons in school history. Believe me, I'm not on the hire Cohen bandwagon. I don't think he's the best choice for the job and I'd really like to see a clean and total break and hire someone with no ties to Polk at all . But you guys talking like Cohen isn't a good coach are just full of ****. That's not an easy place to even make the 8-team SEC tournament at.
he's probably not the number 1 guy out of the pool of people who would consider us, but the guy is obviously a damn good coach. Hell, they'd be 1.5 games out of first in the west. The simple fact that people look at KY on their schedule and think "damn, we could lose 2 that weekend" says it all.
