So let's look at who we DID get and how they fit our needs

First thanks to all these guys that wanted to be Bulldawgs and signed on for the hard work it will take to get us to Atlanta.

QB

Prescott is a very, very good prospect and I think we all are very happy he came to school in January and avoided whatever voodoo curse was put upon us late in the game. We held off LSU and TCU for the kid and he seems to be a perfect fit for our system. We continue to build quality depth at the most important position on the field.

RB

Milton is a solid RB recruit with other SEC offers and seems to be nice workhorse back capable of getting the tough yards.

J. Robinson looks to be an explosive home-run hitter type and I guy I'm fairly excited about if he can get the grades to get in (update: Paul said at one time it was assumed he was JUCO bound but has worked really hard and has a chance of making it outright or maybe prep school for a semeter)

WR

Morrow was a huge get for us given that we have no one his size. He should get PT immediately because of this and by all accounts he's not just tall but really good as well. Any WR that ARK wanted I'm happy to have.

Fosselman gets rave reviews from everyone that has seem him live. Is said to be fearless and really goes and gets the ball. Really good hands is another common comment on him

OL

Malone is a bit of an unknown, no camps or combines. Does have the raw athleticism to be a good tackle prospect in the future though.

Trapp - JUCO guy that didnt' have many offers but Hevesy liked - probably a depth guy.

Redmond - probably a guard and has good size (6'5)

Knox - a TE that will probably become a tackle. This worked our fairly well with Lawrence so hoping for the same here.

Warren - TE prospect who projects more as a blocker, but it's been said he may get a shot at DE as well.

DL

Harris - a tall DE that needs to add a lot of weight, but he had a good offer list and got to campus early

Smith - very similar is size to Harris and needs to add the weight but has a good motor

Jones - good instate DT prospect who needs to add a little weight but looks like a very good pickup

Maiden - will start at DT but some thing OT is his best position so be interested to see where he lands. We forget we beat out LSU for him.

LB

McKinney - certainly has the size and speed but is a project.

DB

Arrington - lots of people really high on this guy and says he hits people hard. Will start at S, but lot of folks think he becomes a LB

Jackson - very, very athletic that has to learn the S position - similar to Whitley

Market - early on people said he was step slow for the SEC, but everyone that saw him live said he was a great player. So he's just a football player who makes plays. I just have a feeling he's going to be a good one.

Calhoun - no problems taking a chance on this guy and reports for the MS/AL all-star were encouraging. I'm curious to see what we have here.

Cox - very nice size for a CB and another guy I'm really high on. Didn't play much defense in HS so big learning curve to CB. Might also be moved to WR, but I think he sticks at CB.

Slay - Juco AA should come in and play a lot immdiately and help shore up our pass defense.

It is over. We lost out on some good ones but we have some
Good football players in this class that want to be dawgs. Hopefully
We learned a few things for next year. I am excited about
Next year and beyond and this is a little disapointing but
Certainly not devastating.

OL is the one area that coaching can really make a difference. Look at our OL when Croom was there. It was horrible but when Mullen came in and inherited the same guys, it turned around. Seems like over night. I know a guy who just graduated from Clemson and played offensive line man. He said that he was a highly recruited out of high school but when he got to college, he was amazed how much he did not know and learned. If they got good sizes and can move a little, you can coach them into a good line man.

It appears good quarterbacks actually want to come to MSU now, I see that as reason for optimism. I would not have guessed there would be this much whining when our depth chart looks like:

6'4" 245 - Gator Bowl MVP

6'5" 225 - Parade AA

6'3" 230 - Offered by LSU, TCU

yeah, you have a few 5 stars and 4 stars that you can just tell are better athletes than most.

But to play OL in college you generally have to have some level of intellect and be willing to work very hard while also have a good coach that can teach all the ins and outs of the position.

We have a very good OL coach and so long as we get him some guys with some talent and good attitudes I think we'll be fine there. We just need to keep signing 3-4 every year.
