So LSU's Spring Game attendance was 22,710...those fans hate Miles.

But he is also reeling in the top 2011 recruiting class right now if I'm not mistaken. That may play a role in the decision.

It doesn't take a genius to sign top LA talent. It takes someone with a pulse. Even though Miles has a pulse he lost the top player in the state to Auburn last year, which is not easy to do.<div>
</div><div>I hope to hell they don't fire him. LSU used to be a guaranteed loss, but now its at least possible.</div>

Not being a smartass, genuinely wondering who they would hire?...

Would have to a be a proven winner I assume, but not necessarily has to know the landscape of the SEC.

A couple of guesses: Mike Gundy, Houston Nutt, Paul Johnson (just a thought), Bobby Petrino, Dan Mullen (assuming quality performance this year)

but it will be interesting to see how LSU does this year. If LSU is 3rd in the SEC West, I could see them going in another direction.

If he has another solid year at Nebraska. <div>
</div><div>I would also think Jack Del Rio, several current or former NFL head coaches would get a look. I think LSU is a top 5-10 job in the country, so I think they could get pretty much anyone they wanted. </div><div>
</div><div>If they lose to UNC in the opener, he might as well hire a realtor and hope that Rich Rod fails at Michigan and they would be dumb enough to hire him.</div>

I think that attendance is just evident that he's on the way out and the fans have just made the decision for the administration.

Of course that news absolutely sucks for us. I'm not one to think Dan is just looking for the next best thing, but LSU is just about the best talent rich recruiting area there is behind Florida.

With Ninja gone, I'm concerned our handle on Dan might be looser.

I think LSU is one of the few programs that would be an easy transition for a career-NFL guy, simply because the program recruits itself. JDR could concentrate on schemes and organizational type **** while his assts would have little to no trouble reeling in top 15 classes year in year out.

All that being said, Sylvester Croom for LSU.

and he was interested in the job when Saban left. And Croom would be more successful in an LSU type program that he was with us. He might actually have the talent to overcome his scheme for a while. <div>
</div><div>
</div><div>However, their spring game is not a focus for their program. They don't play it up like others or make it part of a weekend event like we do. </div>

they will win 8-9 games regardless this season- Miles has to beat Saban. That's it- plain and simple. He loses to Alabama in Baton Rouge this season, his contract will be bought out. He beats Saban, he will be on the sideline in 2011

Everyone always says this. Then why did they suck for almost allof my lifetime before Saban got there? I don't think Miles is that great, but people just completely discredit everything he does by saying or implying that literally anyone can win at LSU, but history doesn't support that.

Look, I think Dan will get several looks if he takes us to a winning record this year, but I just don't see LSU taking a shot on if they fire Miles after this year. If they do get rid of Miles, I would bet that they will go after someone of Saben's caliber, or a big name that will make people's heads turn. <div>

LA has on average about 10-12 National prospects a year. Some years more, some years less, and with the in-state pressure to stay in-state, its a lay up. All you have to do is sign 1-2 players from MS, 4-5 players from TX, and a few more from Florida, and all of a sudden you have a top 5 class. <div>
</div><div>Also, your walk on program should be incredible. </div><div>
</div><div>Lets just hope he gets another year. We don't need LSU to hire another Nick Saban type of coach. We need LSU to hire another coach that doesn't know that the clock stops after an interception.</div>

but thats the only way, especially with another loss to Saban- and then they would just be gearing up to try and get rid of him the next year

Beating Saban this year would get him so much more support and solidify him for the next couple of years

Crxxm isn't half the coach Curley Hallman was. And we all know what Curley Hallman did at LSU.

1.THIS PAST YEARI thought LSU would be so pissed about the Oxford game they'd get rid of him and tried to hire someone this year (not Mullen).

2. Going forward TO THE END OF NEXT FALL, If Mullen exceeds expectations, yes, I think theyd give him a look. Wouldn't have much to do with the record as it would if he beat them this year and also had us 7-5 or 8-4 with losses being close to big teams and an impressive bowl appearance.

Miles got there, there is no debating that. And he's a horrible game day coach. Not a good combination. Their D line is the smallest it's been in fifteen years it looks like.

they are going to be very good at RB, WR, and in the Secondary...supposedly, they are going to try to run the football more

Big year for Miles- no doubt

People still just don't get why Miles won in the beginning and why he's declining now. Saban left that program in better shape than any in the history of college football, Miles didn't start more than a couple of his own recruits until year 4.
But an even bigger reason they won is because his coordinators were Pelini and Jimbo Fisher, 2 coaches that are infinitely better assistants and probably head coaches than Miles, and that opinion will be solidified very soon.

No way he beats Saban by the way, probably ever again.

Their running game would surely be worse than last year. And with the development of the QBs (assumed) you would think they would be passing more.

that the year that Miles won the NC, they lost two games and all they had to do was beat Ohio State in New Orleans. Heck, his NC team lost to Arkansas at home, and I think a UK team that MSU beat on the road that year. How does that happen?

they get Richard Murphy back from injury this year, plus Riddley and the others. Miles reiterated what I said back in November and December in that they probably didnt run the ball enough, and they would make that a point of issue this Spring. That will help their QB's more than anything.

And putting Shepard at WR will definitely make them better there. He has to be on the field for them.

As I said, will be interesting to see what happens. They get Bammer, State, Tenn, and Mississippi at home...plus Vandy on the road...they have to sweep those games...having the week off to get ready for Bammer will help

No doubt they're loaded at RB and WR w/ Toliver, Randle, and Shepard. Shepard will be the Harvin of the SEC for the next two years if they use him right, he's got a better quickness/speed combo than anyone I remember in the SEC besides Harvin recently.

Judging from what was on tv the other day, they are also reloading with some young talent on defense and will have better speed rushers on the ends than they have had in awhile. QB though will be what it comes down to for them, and I just don't think Jefferson or Lee will ever be top notch guys

I honestly see Florida, Bama, and Arkansas as losses for them... with the toss ups being at Auburn and UNC. I wouldn't discount them w/ losing one out of UT, Ole Miss, and us either. I think UT will be down though, they're having a lot of attrition of some key players to go along w/ what they already lost.

I'm not arguing any of those points. Like I said, I don't think he's all that great, but the idea that a blind idiot could recruit top ten talent and coach it to 8 eight wins every season just because it's LSU and it's SO easy to win/recruit at LSU has no basis in history. It is possible to recruit poorly at LSU.

I wasn't responding to anyone saying he underachieves or that he's a horrible game day coach. I was responding to someone just tossing aside his current recruiting success just because it's LSU.

and to take pressure of the QB's- they have to run the damn football. Creates bigger throwing lanes as well in the passing game when you run effectively.

I think they will be fine on defense and the skill positions- it comes down to what the QB and OL does in the big games

I mean dude went 5 - 7, 8 - 5 and 4 - 8 his 3 years at La Tech and landed the Tenn job. If LSU sees something in Dan they come after him. You could rationalize that no one can win consistently at La Tech or MS State for that matter, so how much does the record matter? Look at Tenn hire of Lane K and Aub with Chizik. Neither of these 3 coaches had stellar results......
