So much for Caleb Reed throwing fewer innings this year...

just read this week about how our deep bullpen would allow Caleb to assume more of a true closer role this season...thereby lightening his pitch count for the season. He probably threw at least 90 pitches today and had to be worn out that last inning. Cohen wasn't showing much confidence in his pitching that last inning when he chose to have Caleb re-enter the game having thrown 73 pitches. Made no sense to me at the time and for sure it makes no sense now!

more like when do u put him in? A true closer goes in with the lead. So IF we have as deep a bullpen as Cohen had alluded to earlier in the week then you use that bullpen until you get the lead or the other team wins. That is, IF, you intend to use Caleb more as a true closer this season. Right now, do not bet that Caleb ends the season with a lot less pitches than last season. Yesterday, with his warmups, he easily went over a hundred pitches. At the end he was totally gassed and should have been.
