….and as expected, he confirmed that Selmon pulled a yes man to all the bros who wanted &tate all over athletics. That in itself is OK, but they went too far when they tried to make it the primary athletic logo and put it all over our facilities and websites. I should have known it was that vocal part of the fanbase that wanted to get rid of our 25-year old official university logo, that is now recognized all over the country.

All that said, I do support the interlocking on the helmet. Our fans want it, so do it. But banner M needs to be on the 50-yard line and mid court. Do what you want with the uniforms, I really don’t care. But banner M is the overarching emblem.

Too many RuNdAbAwL bubbas don’t understand this. Sell all the interlocking and &tate merch you want. But keep the main official emblem in the background.

This is all I ask….but we won’t ‘get’ it.

It's not all over the facilities, it's still the M with the toilet paper

No. The M banner is ugly. I would rather the script state and interlocking any day.
Well, the banner M (and I happen to like it) is still the official university emblem/logo, so you might as well get over yourself on that. But, I wouldn't mind seeing the stack MSU on the helmets. The script State is so bland and lacking in imagination so as to look sophomoric and amateurish.

Oh good googledy moogley! Can we call it a PODCAST and not a pod? This recent trend bothers me slightly less than legal cases being described as so and so V so and so, as opposed to so and so VERSUS so and so. It’s only two syllables, it’s not that hard ***

And the banner M isn’t?
It’s one Larry Templeton liked and basically got for free and he didn’t have to pay an Advertising/Marketing firm hundreds of thousands of dollars to get.

We should just go back to the early 90s helmet logo and midfield logo:

1755402535782.png

Who remembers the national news channel that had the above logo on our field as part of the intro to one of their programs in the 90s? As I recall, it wasn’t a sports only program. The intro just had a bunch of short, disconnected clips, one being footage from one of our games with the midfield logo (same on helmet above) being prominent. I believe it was the only sports related clip in the intro.

This is my personal favorite. But, I’m partial to Rockey. This is his logo.

It is more timeless than the late 90s interlocking MSU that everyone is clamoring for.

I don’t hate the late 90s interlocking MSU, but it is very obviously a 90s logo. The early 90s MSU logo works throughout time because it looks like a classic college football logo.

That’s the one right helmet logo.

With the official university logo on the 50 yard line. It’s really that simple.

He may have initially gotten it for free, but since he left the logo has been redone at least twice. The initial one with all the curls is plainly terrible. (And boy did we have some ugly uniforms to go with it, from our time with Russell Athletic. The only thing uglier was our football team)

I have mixed feelings about the newest one. But now that retailers regularly carry at least 4 logos to choose from, it doesn't bother me nearly as much as it once did. I think moving away from it would be a mistake.

As for the "MSJ" logo, I guess I feel the same way about it that I do about the original Banner M. The redesign of it (interlocking MSU) is such an obvious improvement that I just don't get nostalgia for it.

Most of this is untrue. Regardless of what was decided on in 1995.

In 2009 Greg Byrne partnered with adidas, a marketing firm and other university officials to create the current branding. They decided on MState 2.0, the woodmark and a few other Bulldog images and that's what we have today.

Opinions differ as you see here. Just go with an all white helmet with nothing on it. No stripes on uniforms….nothing other than numbers on the jerseys. There…..that should piss everyone off but at least we will be in agreement. 🙂

I like it way better than the banner and the interlocking, but it looks looks like MSJ to me

On that note I notice my friends from the Northeast all say Vers instead of Versus. It bugs the crap out of me. Am I wrong?

ISelmon made a rookie mistake as a leader. You have to make the decisions. You can't ask a bunch of people for their opinion because you'll get a bunch of variations. Even if you ask 5 people you'll get various opinions.

Selmon decided on &tate. Now he gave the gnats a bread crumb and they're beating down his door. He is in a situation where he went all in on &tate but a few people with a platform and heard want something else. Selmon wants &tate and The University logo is MState. And people want skinny msu. It's a branding cluster.

I’ve been aware of this logo my whole life. Someone on this board had to point that out to me a few weeks ago.

In context, it should be obvious it is MSU, not MSJ.

And being a logo, it isn’t read. It is recognized.

The vast majority of Mississippi State fans couldn’t care less about the logo, it’s the little corner of the Internet in the fanbase that makes all the noise about it.
Disagree. Myself included, I’ve come across several people in discussion about apparel. More people would buy more hats and shirts ect if there were more abundance of better logo designs. Most heterosexual men don’t want to wear the gay &tate hats and shirts.

I’ve come across some too but for most they don’t care. They’ll just buy whatever.

I don’t think many people care if the M State is used everywhere outside the uniforms. It just doesn’t look good on the helmet. Put it wherever else you want. Just give us uniforms that don’t look like sh*t. We have the look. Just use it.

That logo is too vertical & too white. Why is it white inside of the U below the S, or just below the upper left part of the M? Those bother me. Also, we absolutely sucked using that logo. The 90s logo is a much cleaner, classic look.

This is the logo I want us to use again, maybe with a few tweaks to make the lettering more prominent (maroon in the space of the U instead of white). It’s a classic college logo and should’ve remained instead of trying to update it like we did in 96 and replacing it with that junior high logo M State under Croom.
