So Shumpert is about ready to leave school

That is what I'm hearing. He is the best running back we have, hands down, and we are not utilizing him. We burned a redshirt because he is ready to ball right now, yet he cannot get more than 3 touches in a game.

I don't blame him for wanting to go somewhere he can play and succeed.

Sucks. Just passing along the word.

Hopefully he sticks it out. Would hate to see him go.

Yet another reason to fire Mullen.

No surprise.

If I was JRob, I'd be pissed as hell.

Has been rumors of this for awhile.

I don't blame him. He's one of a handful of young guys that we aren't giving a fair shake to. I'd be pissed as well if I were him.

I don't see any way this thread helps MSU, and it potentially hurts us. Why even post something like that?

Flame away but I have seen nothing from Shumpert that makes me think he is the best running back on the team. The guy has no burst. He can lower his shoulder, but he hasn't shown any escapability at all. If he is seriously frustrated and talking of transferring then he is in for a rude awakening. I'm not saying he won't ever do anything in college, but at this point he is not ready.

Now Robinson, he absolutely has a right to be pissed. But we all know that Mullen is way to stubborn with the RB situation.

I do understand Shumpert being mad about the RS being burnt. If you aren't going to play a guy, don't burn it.

Idk if this is anything but Fred Ross seems to be frustrated with something. He tweeted this after the game @Theboss_8: This starting to get old

He was probably talking about studying or girls or losing at video games or something. There's no reason to assume he wants to quit the team or transfer or anything...

When has he been given the opportunity to show these things? In his 8 touches since Troy?

He needs to do his time. If he was at LSu, Alabama or many other SEC schools he would not even been on the field at all.

I hope he hangs in there. Running the option next year with Dak, JRob, and Shumpert will be awesome.

If we are able to block anyone up front...

I bet he'd be pissed if he was redshirting this year. I bet he'll be pissed next year when Aeris Williams is getting 10+ carries a game as a true freshman because Shump wanted instant gratification.

I like that Shump believes he can help the team. But nobody likes a quitter without a cause.

Yep, we are supposed to sit a guy who has over 4,000 career all purpose yards to make a freshman happy.

You just made my point.

How can people say he is hands down the best RB on the team based on what we have seen? His "big" game was against Alcorn, and he averaged less than 5 ypc in that one. People came on here claiming he was a stud, but I never saw it.

But like I said, he still has potential and could be a good one for us in a couple of years. From what I've seen, though, his gripe should be with not being redshirted, not playing time.

These freshmen unhappy is more about a lack of senior leadership than anything else. I don't think Dak had much of a role his first year....

Where did anyone even remotely say "he is hands down the best RB on the team"? Not in this thread. People just think he deserves more touches than he's getting -- and that goes for Robinson as well.

He was promised to not redshirt during recruiting.

It is not all about "burst"

If that were the single trait to make a RB, Perkins would be a damn fine one. But Perkins might as well be running with his eyes closed, because he has no instincts or vision. Also, he doesnt have the hips to make the quick cut like Robinson and Shumpert do. You really cant criticize Shump's lack of escapability on his sample size. That doesnt give him the advantage of those carries where an actual hole opens up right in front of him and he gets to go 1 on 1 with a LB - with enough carries that will happen. I know I have seen him run over people and make cutbacks into space that our other RBs dont find.

Oh and Shumpert has plenty of "burst". I promise you he would have found a yard if we gave it to him 3 times from 2nd and 1 in the first half. I do believe Shumpert is the best RB we have. I think Robinson is very good too. Perkins has a skill set we are misusing. Should only be used on passing downs.

I understand why Shumpert could be pissed, but you are either a team player or you need to leave.

I follow some of these offensive players on twitter, and there is a ton of selfishness going on right now. Even some of the good players are more about getting their stats than they are about winning.

There is no room for these attitudes in MSU football. When Mitch Moreland was a freshman, his red shirt was pulled with 3 weeks left in the season, and he never complained and did what was best for the team.

If true, Like most freshman, Shumpert needs to realize that MSU football is far bigger than himself, and make commitment to doing whatever he can to help MSU win or go be a decent RB at ICC.

This is a sign of poor leadership as well, but the coaches shouldn't give in. They've shown that they play good freshmen.

Fair enough. I didn't see that part in my quick review of the thread before my second post

What should we have done with Shumpert? We didn't redshirt him and he's gotten both playing time and carries as a true freshman. The guy that a case could be made for over Perkins based on what they've done on the field is Robinson moreso than Shumpert.

He should have wanted to red-shirt....

Also, Perkins should be in the slot and/or only play as a 3rd down back.

Shucks ...

From what I've seen, though, his gripe should be with not being redshirted, not playing time.

I have always thought that it was BOTH the player and the Coachs, working together that came to a decission on RS.

Wouldn't that discussion include ... Mullen "... so long as you understand that we already have x # of RBs ahead of you and you will only get limited' touches."

I don't think there is anything new or unusual here. Highly recruited guys want

to play and be successful, that has always been the case. Only problem now with social media we know about it in nanoseconds and hear about it constantly.

It's just my 2 cents (as well as a couple ***. Coaches). But the dude has shown more to me out of his 40 totals touches than any running back we have. He is a Natural. He's got instincts that just cannot be taught. Only downfall I know of is that he seeks contact more than he should, but he will learn with time. Also, could be a knowledge of the playbook type thing.

He blocks. He finds running lanes across the field. He has not fumbled. He runs (people over) with power. I am drooling over the potential this guy has. He just needs to find someone with the right offense. Hopefully it is not at another school.

Well would you rather be making $$ or playing for free?

I know when I was in school - I was ready to start making $$ even though I enjoyed college life. Now I wish I was back in school.
