Get you a 15 yard penalty? Bama's player does it against Va Tech to start the season then Calhoun does it in the Egg Bowl and no penalties. Then Calhoun does it again tonight and BOOM! 15 yarder......

I don't think that move is against the rules necessarily. Sometimes that's the only way a little guy like Calhoun can bring a big guy down. Remember him tackling knemdiche the same way. I think the issue was it was a little after tithe whistle this time. Not by much, buy it was.

Edit: Calhoun is bigger than I thought at 6'1", but the point still stands.

Well the receivers legs were still moving towards our end zone. Also can someone explain how Mullen raising hell with the ref after the fourth down stop and our subsequent 15 yard penalty got reversed. It was away from our section (125) and I didn't understand how it got overturned.

The refs today let the plays go way too long. If the refs had blown the play dead earlier, Calhoun wouldn't have done that if he had blown the whistle when he should've. But he didn't and Calhoun had every right to do that. It was a B.S. call. The play where the Rice RB fumbled shoulda been blown dead too, so we got that 15 back

The way it appeared on Tv was that it wasn't reversed, but since it was after the play it didn't result in a Rice first down. I expected us to have to start with 1st and 25, but it appeared they assessed the 15yd penalty then started us at 1st and 10 from that point. It was strange. Somebody with more rules knowledge may have more insight, but that's how it appeared.

The sight lines in that stadium aren't great from the corner seats. None of us could tell and it wasn't something they replayed on the stadium big screen. Pretty much every time we would cross midfield with the play going away from south end zone we would all turn around and watch it on the jumbo torn instead of watching the field.

It appeared Mullen was mostly pissed at Smith. The official said "automatic first down" but they proceeded to set up as if we were on offense. Both teams were preparing like Rice was getting the ball back and the officials realized everyone was confused. That's when he said 1st down MSU ball.

it was an after the play penalty. That's why we got the ball and started 1st and 10. It's just like when you get an unsportsmanlike penalty after a first down. It's still 1st and 10, but 15 yards back. If it would have happened during the play, Rice would have gotten an automatic first down. Basically, Smith talked some **** to the QB after the sack. It was ********. I watch Johnny Manziel run his 17ing mouth after every play and they don't do ****. ACC refs so what do you expect.

He got flagged because he suplexed the guy well after the whistle had blown. Watching it on TV, it didn't seem like a bad call to me.

ETA: I went back a re-watched the play. Calhoun had started the move before the whistle blew so I guess that ref doesn't have an appreciation for WWE moves.

I wondered if it was the fans reaction to the play that magnified it for the ref. the whole damn stadium, including the 14 Rice fans, all went whoop! When he did it.
