But it seems like this story was being worked from three separate angles all at the same time: Forde/Lowe/ESPN.com, Thamel at the New York Times and Veazey at the Clarion-Ledger. That tells me that something leaked at some point relatively recently - it's just too coincidental that three media outlets all were researching the story independently at the same time with an eye towards releasing it today or tomorrow. Best I can tell, ESPN.com "broke" the story with the NY Times following close behind. And supposedly the Clarion-Ledger is coming out with their version tomorrow. And then there is Veazey's tweet that mentions Forde and Thamel and makes a comment about them all chasing the same rabbits.
I don't think we spilled the beans (other than to the SEC months ago) and I agree with others who have speculated that Bond came out with his statement AFTER it became clear that one (or all) of the media outlets were going forward with their stories.
So, the obvious question is how did three distinct media outlets all find out the same information that got them digging into this? To me, none of the allegations are much of a surprise. I read most of them here on the Pack months ago. But ESPN.com and the NY Times aren't the kind of outlets to use message board fodder to research a story. Something had to have snuck out. I'm just curious how and why now.
