Auburn folks are swearing up and down it's us and not them. The denial is strong with that bunch, because we look clean.

yeah...but are they trying to sell that crap to the FBI ??? Per Atlanta sports radio this AM, they had the guy from ESPN that is heading up the story... he gave a pretty clear picture of what has happened so far and I'm sure by the end of the day it will have spread to all message boards .... the impending doom is within sight and now these sports disc jockeys are starting to side with MSU and Florida .... complete turn around from a week ago when we were scum and the Newtons were still saints that were being victomized ... the ESPN guy stopped just short of speculating on the penalty ... can't remember everything but it was a great discussion .... they had the guy on the telephone

The evidence is strong and keeps mounting, and it looks like these ties to the casino/dog track and Colonial Bancgroup are true, which means more trouble.

I don't think it means "kicked out of the SEC" but I do think its big enough to do the following:

1. Significantly hamper recruiting, which will lead to subpar performance.
2. Significantly reduce the number of overall students that wish to go to Auburn. (which helps us in a roundabout way)

The idiots that are slinging mud at us know nothing. The Auburn "insiders" are way too quiet on this for there not to be fire. Think about it this way. If the roles were reversed, msbullie, coach34 and onall4paws and those types would be screaming Auburn! while 7dust, JackatShelter and others that know a little bit wouldn't be saying much.

We may be guilty of secondary violations, since we don't know everything that happened. I highly doubt we are guilty of major violations. The biggest thing is that we are not guilty of lack of institutional control, which is the one that destroys a program for years.

There is no reason in the world for Bill Bell to have multiple conversations with either Cecil Newton or Kenny Rogers. After the very first request for money, he should have said We don't do that, and then told them as a booster, they should not be talking to him but should be talking to MSU coaches regarding playing football at MSU. The fact that they had repeated conversations DOES NOT look good, and if we don't see that, then we too are hiding our heads in the sand.

The fact that we had boosters in direct contact with a recruit or his family is probably a pretty big no no. </p>

The contact is bad. But, it appears that Bell reported the contact timely manner to Bond who reported to the AD who reported to the SEC. We told Bell to cut off communications when we found out about it. We essentially reported this and maintained "institutional control" during the process. That's a good thing.

I'm not saying nothing will happen, but I think secondary is the key word. I wouldn't trade positions with AU for anything right now...

ETA: This is all assuming that Bell isn't hiding correspondence where he actually offered anything to Rogers/Newton...if that can be proven, we have big issues.

were initiated by Rogers (hence all the voice mails), occurred over a short period of time and stopped once Bond contacted the athletic department. Also, we self-reported this in January, less than a month later. The most the NCAA will do sanction-wise is cut recruiting visits, if anything.

Also keep in mind that if the tapes or text message do actually exist and if Bell had completely shut this thing down then it may have just been a "he said, she said" scenario and AU may get off completely. I also realize they may get off anyway just throwing that out there. To me it was a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario and assuming some kind of evidence that has been referenced I'm glad it turned out the way it did even if we get some minor slap on the wrist. However, as another poster said if it comes out we justwere outbid then I retract my support of how it was handled.

And how many got in trouble?

In the Cam Newton Sweepstakes, just like the AlbertMeans sweepstakes, the only one the NCAA is really concerned with is the "winner". I think the only way MSU gets in trouble is if some of the evidenceMSU people are having to turn over (this is where the FBI changes things) indicates they weren't asinnocent as they first claimed to be.

i personally am glad we turned in Auburn and am sick and tired of the slave trade in college football. we run an honest and clean program and that's the bulldog way. to hell with what everyone else says. we know we're clean and doing the right thing. sometimes being honest is a painful pill to swallow but we will prevail in the long run.

Rogers was bugging the hell out of Bell, by being very aggressive and calling him constantly. Bell finally called Bond to help him get Rogers off his case.

Now, I guess its possible that Bell was actually trying to pull the money together, and he should get in trouble if so, but we don't really have evidence of that at this point.

We have Bell and Bond both saying they had multiple conversations with Rogers about this deal, and then Bond went to Greg Byrne, and he told them to shut down the conversations. I think they were trying to get a clear presentation of what Rogers was asking for before they turned it all in.

Regardless of Bell and Bond's motives, the good news for MSU is that Byrne shut it down, and then commenced turning it all in a month later.

...how the NCAA perceives whistleblowers.

In 1989, congress passed the Whistleblower Protection Act, because unless somebody blows the whistle on ******** going on in secret, it will go on forever & do incalculable damage.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...tleblower_Protection_Act

My point is if the NCAA deems whistleblowers to be important & valuable in bringing down an outfit like the Auburn football crime syndicate, then MSU will be okay.

(I would assume the FBI holds whistleblowers in high regard).

1. Rogers - His supposed presence/involvement ina money conversation that took place in the lobby of the Starkville Hilton with two coaches and Cecil Newton during Cam's recruitment bothers me. Even if it was innocent and we refused to play the money game, that whole scene makes it look like he was there brokering negotions between MSU and the Newton camp for "pay to play".

2. Slive - If he makes it through this without being fired, I think that would mean trouble for us down the line......and often.

This much is true. If Slive survives, you can bet your cowbell fines will be the maximum, and you won't receive any support from him on anything in the future. He may re-open the Sidney case in some fashion if possible.

Not to mention the fact that he has to be ticked at Florida over this too, and he can't do anything to Florida, which means he would have to take out his frustrations with them on you as well.

Sad as it is to say, I have zero trust for Slive.

The FBI may be looking at him for why he sat on the MSU information and contacts with any of the Auburn folks mentioned in reports. Also if he serves at the pleasure of the University presidents it would appear that the big players in the conference will want him gone after the way he has handled the whole thing and screwed their seasons.
