28 million to spend on Andrew Luck. Luck is being touted as the best QB prospect in the last 14 years.

Most reports are that his arm strength has not returned and no team would take on his salary without full arm strength, especially when potential suitors knew he was going to be on the open market.

$28M with saved is huge for cap purposes. no one was going to trade for manning and take on that contract without seeing a whole hell of a lot more out of him. the colts need to rebuild all over, and keeping manning eats up cap space and gives you a QB entering the end of his career while everywhere else on the team is being built for the future. i don't know how much stanford you watched, but luck is outstanding. smart, great arm, vastly underrated athletic ability (finished in the top 5 of QBs in every drill at the combine), and a great awareness. he's the most advanced college QB i've seen since peyton. the colts can't afford to pass on him in order to spend huge chunks of cap space on a 36 year old QB who sat out the entire past season with numbness in his arm and multiple neck surgeries.

You must have not have a television. If you have watched any Espn the last couple days all the reports are saying that he looks just like the old peyton and is doing excellent. The weak arm reports were back in august or September when he wanted to come back. I love that he's leaving though. My sister married a ut grad and so she's been a die hard colts fan. I'm anxious to see her opinion of her favorite team now.

I don't think they were a playoff team with Manning last year. They have swung and missed on some draft picks over the last few years, and it's starting to catch up with them.

If they were going to trade someone, it should have been Wayne. He would have more value in the market, but I guess they wanted him there for Luck.

The reports on his recent workout at Duke were that he "looked like the same old Peyton".

I think he'll be back, but 30 seconds of grainy footage of five throws, and a few comments from his entourage do not an NFL QB make. He has still refused to work out for team doctors, etc. hasn't he?

In this situation, I think the Colts are making a decent move. A tough choice, but they have to do what's best for the franchise for the next decade.

and a whole different thing to play like the old Peyton for a season. I still think he's a huge risk and cutting him to save the $28M is a hell ofa lot better deal for the Colts than paying him the $28M and taking all that risk. Whoever he signs with, I don't expect to see much guaranteed money in the contract and a lot of incentive money.

Stories like this often aren't so much 'leaked' but 'planted'. It could have been Manning's agent that made those statements.

There was a thread on here a few months ago because ESPN was report that Manning was willing to take a heavily incentive based deal. That's crap. I would be willing to bet that story came straight from Manning's agent. The only reason they 'leaked' that story was to put pressure on the teams interested in signing him.

Think about it the dumbass fans that probably called the Redskins and Dolphins saying they wanted Peyton Manning, especially since he's willing to take such a risk free contract. That story was planted to put pressure on some NFL front offices.

I guarantee you Peyton doesn't sign a contract that's full of incentives.

OC's quotes. For the record, I think Indy is doing the right thing also. You can't hang the future of your franchise on "maybe he's fine, maybe he isn't". They have an opportunity to get what everyone close to the game says is an excellent, NFL ready future star at QB. It would be stupid of them to pass him up, considering Peytons unsure status.

I'm just saying that as far as message board fodder goes, the most recent info is that he throws well. Maybe his rehab has corrected the noodle arm reported back in August. That doesn't mean he'll be an effect game time QB yet, but his arm strength appears normal. That's all.
