we've only had Stratton drafted as far as I can tell. So I would think we should be pretty safe not to lose any other underclassmen or signees to MLB.

does he still have another year of eligibility left? I'm guessing he could be a 5th year SR next year?

He should come back and improve that money. Why are people saying he's gonna take it? What is his reason?

but I believe that Routt wants to go to pro ball now while he still has a little leverage in negotiations.

in the 16th round he's still probably looking at a signing bonus under 100K so he just needs to do whatever makes him happy. If he wants to stay and be part of an even better MSU team next year he won't be passing up that much money.

I doubt any college senior not drafted in the top 3 rounds will sign for much more than 10K.

If he can get 50K or more, he should take it and run. Same goes for any Ole Miss player.

an extra 30 to 40K is nice, especially if you need a new car, but its not life altering money by any means.

Sounds like Routt's gone and I really don't blame him. Would be nice to have him back, but we won't miss him much either.

he is really not interested in college. Per the CL article on the draft, with the new financial slotting system, a 10th rounder is slotted at around $125K so a 16th rounder should be well below that. Very good chance he comes to school.

unless there is money available from the 1-10 Round Bonus Pool.

A $100K bonus isn't a lot of money when you're looking at a few years of low pay, long bus rides and a lot of time in cheap hotel rooms. He really needs to come to school.

in terms of where he is and talent. He was saying that he was going to MSU no matter what, though.

I read that Strattons slot was worth right at about 1.8 million dollars, what exactly does that mean. How much of a signing bonus will Stratton expect to get and what kind of contract? MLB collective bargaining agreements and the draft is one thing I haven't quite gotten down yet.

but the team has every pick slotted in the first 10 rounds. Add that money up and that's there total for the team to spend on bonuses in the first 10 round picks. They can sign them for whatever and any leftover money is carried over to rounds after the 10th. After the 10th, the max is 100K plus any available leftover signing money from the first 10 rounds.

If you over pay on your budget the penalties are stiff. If you fail to sign a guy in the first 10 rounds, you forfeit that money.

It's 75% tax (yep) for going over and if they go over their allotted amount, they can lose draft picks in next years draft.

You would have to be the second coming of Babe Ruth to be worth the penalties.

In short- you better sign the guys you draft for what the slot is.
