besides we had no additional decommitments? I am still just stunned that with all the positive energy surrounding our program right now that more of that is not translating into recruiting success particularly in state. Heck, I would think in particular the game atmosphere we have developed over the past couple of years (especially this year) would be very attractive to recruits.

1. We have 17 starters returning
2. We redshirted 20+ freshman this year
3. We have only 1 winning season with this year's HS seniors
4. Cam Newton situation

1. Mississippi is losing WR's and defensive players
2. They have 2 Cotton Bowls with this year's HS seniors

I'll be in shock and awe if we dont have a top 20 recruiting class next year after another New Year's Day bowl. I thought we would do a little better this year- but it's understandable why some of this has happened.

the cam newton saga and its continuing aftermath. We're vulnerable to the probation argument and will continue to be until the NCAA concludes their investigation. Nothing we can do about it except argue that AU is the target and we're good. Our foes will continue to suggest otherwise.

Look at Croom's best class. It occurred the season after his only bowl trip. So, it's not surprising State didn't see an up-tick in recruiting late this year -- the hay is already in the barn so to speak. However, that doesn't explain the rash of decommitments, which tells me there's something else besides wins and loses at play here.

Ole Miss is only losing Sumners and Breaux, but they are returning Logan, Harris- who was their top WR, Grandy- who they list as a WR, and then they have Vincent Sanders.

just a little taken back by the downtick. CJ, Whitehead and Brassell are all guys that a month ago seemed fairly solid VERBAL commitments to us along with us feeling pretty good about Singleton. The negativity that seemed to get going during and now after bowl season is the part that still doesn't make sense given the results of the Gator Bowl.

He was only 2 catches behind the leader, but led in yards and TD's- I'd have to say he was easily their best.

We return our top 10 WR's

Big difference

Why commit to State now when you can go on your visit to Oxford and get your *** kissed all weekend, !#+@ a co-ed, get a little money stuffed in your pocket, and then sign with State on Feb 2nd?

Apparently none of you have ever been recruited before

but I would be willing to try if that's what happens.

I do agree that we aren't thin on experience either, but we also use more WR's than Ole Miss does in our offense, which is also a big difference between us and them.

I'm just saying that someone saying "I'm going to Ole Miss because of the depth chart" doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me because they're not really that thin either, and I would imagine that the guys I mentioned will get a crack to start before any freshman does. And on top of that, most of their WR's were underclassmen. They'll be there for a little while.

if logic were the only thing.

It will be harder to play early at Msu than Om next fall.
It will be harder to break the 2 deep depth chart at Msu next fall.
The winning season thing I dont buy however. They see the season just like we do. A program on the rise.
Cam Newton situation is quite simply not an issue. It should be for Auburn, but that was put to bed by the NCAA.

It's usually either:

1. Come play for us and help us build on our great season.

or

2. Come play for us immediately.

Cornell (MLB) and Walker (OLB) are gone, leaving Shackelford (OLB or MLB), Kight (2nd team OLB), and Marry (MLB or DE) as our top options, right?

He has just as much of a chance at starting at LB at State as he does at Ole Miss. I think they like Shackelford at OLB moreso than MLB and Marry will be a true soph and could get moved to DE. At worst he would fight Marry for the starting spot and get significant minutes at OLB and MLB if he doesn't earn the starting spot.

he is going to go to Oxford next weekend, get some walking around cash, bang a ho, and then sign with us on Feb 2nd

I'm talking about why the WR's are going to sign with the Black Bears

But, would you rather start for the shittiest defense in the SEC, or start for a defense with all the other parts in place?

if the ones behind them weren't good enough to beat them out.

And if you're suggesting that Ole Miss isn't an avenue from which a LB can enter the NFL, then you must not pay any attention to the team that your former RB plays for.

he said he wanted to go ahead and get a head start on "bending a Black Bear over and putting it to them"

Don't understand what you mean saying we only have one winning season with this year's seniors. If they're not payig attention as 9th graders, why would they pay attention as 10th graders? Sure, they're on varsity but still don't see big significance.

I'll give their early signees to their Cotton Bowls, but the one's we lost recently, don't see the CB factor if it wasn't there before. I don't know what happened but I suspect our problem is embedded in our Athletic dept. and not our football staff.
