Yet, we are still firmly on the bubble. What gives? Is the AP biased or the NCAA selection committee flawed? Give me some explanation. For what its worth, I think we probably deserve to be on the bubble.

I'm just curious about WHY the pollsters think we are the 35ish best team in the country, yet we may not make the tourney. I know there are a lot of spots in the tourney occupied by low tier teams who win their conference tourney, but that doesn't make up 30 spots in the NCAA's.

There are 31 auto bids which meansthere are 34 slots availible. Soyoufigure within the AP rankings the ACC champ, Big 10 champ, Big East champ,SEC champ, Big 12 champ, Horizon champ, WCC champ, MWC champ, andA10 champ are all accounted for.
Thats 9 out of the top 25 getting auto bids.Meaning within thecurrent top 25, there would be 16teams that receive bidsfrom the 34 availible slots. That leaves only 18 slots left for teams outside the top 25 to get an auto bid.

Meaning #26-44 in the country wouldmake it in...give or take apollranking.

So if we are 35th in the nation via thepolls, then awesome. But then you look at all the stuff the committee apparently looks at,such as SOS, RPI, and wins vs top 50 and suddenly MSU isnt exactly impressive and is borderline deserving.

how you have done in your most recent games than anything. You still have to have a good record to go along with it, but they just rank the teams they think are the hottest at the time of it's release usually.

The best teams we've beaten record wise have 23, 19, and 19 wins. (ODU, OM, and Wright State). The 23 win team plays in the colonial atlantic.

I don't believe that the rpis take how you are playing now into account. I believe that the rider loss has as much weighting as our upcoming game against ut. This to me is ridiculous--teams improve over the course of the year, and many times far surpass teams that may have been better at the beginning of the year. Agreed that you can't just consider a "hot streak", but I believe the pollsters have evaluated our team since second play began, and observe our 9-5 record, and that we were within 1 possession or better in the last minute of all 5 of those losses. We are without a doubt a top 35 team today and the last 3 weeks. I personally could give a rats butt as to how good or bad somebody was in Nov-Dec. The fact that the bracket nerds weight those games the same is absurd. With all of that being said, the ncaa's rpi formula is secret, so we really don't know how they weight things. I'm pretty sure that sagarin has a "predictor" model that is supposed to be an indicator of how good you are NOW.
