Is he a defensive guru? No
Is he an offensive guru? Recent history says heck no
Is he a great recruiter? Ummm, no.
Is he an excellent game manager? NO
Can he assemble a stellar cadre of assistants? No (but $ or lack thereof impacts this)

So what does he bring to the table?
Stability
An eye for overlooked talent

Appears to me that he has more liabilities than not, and he needs to surround himself with much better assistants who can make up for his weaknesses. Our athletic director should demand this and give the additional funds to lure qualified assistants. Dan must be willing to cut ties to "comfortable" assistants and swallow his ego to bring in someone who can run a competent offense and special teams. These things "should" be demanded by the AD. Otherwise it should be one more chance in 2014 or adios, MF.
