So where are we going?

Is is not possible we get a better bowl berth than the Bears? The difference between B'ham, Memphis, and Shreveport is negligible at best, but it would be funny as hell if that is how it worked out...

I wish but it didn't work that way last year when the roles were reversed.

I'm just glad to be goin anywhere. Thought the odds at beginning of season were 50-50 and thought we were staring at 4-8. Glad I'm an idiot

Agreed. We're playing with house money at this point, but last year, we were 8-4 (4-4) and they were 6-6 (3-5). This year, we are 6-6 and they are 7-5 and we have the same SEC record, with the tie breaker. Under these circumstances, I believe it can happen.

I guess anything is possible, but I don't see how we end up anywhere other than Memphis if the Liberty Bowl truly wants us. The Liberty Bowl (SEC 8) picks ahead of BBVA (9) and ahead of Indy (10).

Ahead of us:
Bama
Auburn
Missouri
USCe
LSU
aTm
Vandy

Then, its us and UM. The Bears have a better overall record, but we have the same conference record, and have the tie breaker with the head to head win. It's possible that the Liberty Bowl picks us and can do so because of that no better than one win rule. If that happens, the Bears are heading back to Birmingham.

That's true

And we did finish ahead in the standings both times.. Maybe it will happen!

two weeks ago they were 7-3 thinking big bowl. We were 4-6 thinking new coach. Now we are one bowl win for us and one loss for them away from finishing with identical records. How much has changed in just a couple of weeks

I think the SEC now has a rule that doesn't allow a bowl to skip over a team for a team with a worse record IF there is a 2 game overall difference. That rule doesn't apply if it's a 1 game difference, as we have here.

Or maybe it's an unwritten rule. But I think it CAN happen in this case. And could not have happened last year.

I guess it does. And I can't see a scenario where there isn't two SEC teams in the BCS. One will be an at large if the expected scenario of Alabama wiinning 2 more games doesn't play out.

The only scenario I can possibly come up with to get just one SEC team in the BCS would be:

TAMU beats Missouri
Alabama beats Auburn BADLY
Alabama beats South Carolina

And then all the other highly ranked teams win their remaining games.

We've got one really big thing in our favor.

Dak Prescott. He's the next big thing and it's obvious. He sells tickets and he's making a name. OM has a bunch of flashy freshman recruits, but we've got the horse you take to the show. We've got the momentum and we are finally doing things to get people to notice us. Not the best year this year but damn did we go out in style. Lot of good momentum for us and we've finally got a guy in Dak that can sell the mentality of this program.

I think the Music City is what will send us to Birmingham...

Since Vandy went there last year, they'll work with the SEC to send Vandy to Memphis (who we can't jump if they beat Wake), get UM to Nashville (who was in BHam last year), and put us in the BBVA.
Pretty much I expect them to take the decision out of the Liberty Bowl's hands.

This is what I think will happen as well. I would guess Nashville would rather have Ole Miss than Vanderbilt. Then the Liberty would be forced to take Vandy because of the two win thing.

It kinda sucks that (to me at least) the Independence Bowl has the most intriguing match up despite being the lowest on the totem pole.

If SMU and Rutgers both lose their last two, the AAC won't be able to fill its spot in Birmingham. Does anybody have an idea of who might be there instead?

To be honest, nobody is going to give very much respect to the bowls we are eligible for in terms of prestige. The main concern I have is about the matchup, and the odds of us getting the "W" based on that matchup. We need this bowl win now more than ever to keep this wave of momentum going into the offseason and then next year. I just hope we don't draw an opponent riding a wave of momentum like the C-USA champion, or a team coming off a big rivalry win like we are. We need someone like barely bowl eligible Rutgers who had high hopes to begin the year, but got crushed late in the season by stronger in-conference opponents. I just want the win, and I don't mind if we have to whip someone with their tails already tucked between their legs to get there.

Liberty bowl is always fun. Usually cold as crap though. The extra layers of clothes really help with the whiskey smuggling though.

I believe it will be memphis. I saw a Liberty bowl official on the field on the phone last night after I stormed the field. I believe those guys like our fans and the cowbells. Must also say not a bad seat in the house for that place.

I feel sure we'll be favored in any of the possibilities, but I agree that Birmingham would be the least difficult opponent.

Liberty Bowl seems to be the worst of both worlds, a good team without a big name.

The ACC has more bowl eligible teams than slots, so I would guess one of their leftovers would take that spot if Rutgers and SMU both lose out. Rutgers has a home game left against 2-8 USF, though, so they will likely be headed to Birmingham.

There are a few bad ones.

Must also say not a bad seat in the house for that place.
We got tickets through the BC in '07 and were stuck up behind the supports. Nothing like having to shift to try and get around a blocked line of sight. It was bad enough I might not buy through the university if we go there.

To me Memphis>Shreveport>Birmingham. Legion Field is a dump. I think veterans memorial stadium in Jackson is honestly in better shape.

Veterans Memorial has had some face lift work and more basic maintenance than Legion Field for sure.

The most important question...

Will there be booze sold at any of these games?

I can easily see this scenario happening.

TAMU beats Missouri - Missou is only a 4 point favorite, and if Manziel is hot, he can do anything.
Alabama beats Auburn BADLY - if Alabama can stifle auburn's running attack, it could get ugly.
Alabama beats South Carolina - No question.

Also, I don't think any current BSC hopefuls are facing a tough matchup. Closest thing is probably #8 Stanford playing #25 Notre Dame, which will more than likely still be a blowout.

This is only a rule for the Capital One bowl

Other than that, I think the SEC office will strongly suggest not to do it, but has no power to stop them.

Home field adv

If you want some home field adv. play in Shreveport. Dak is a high school legend there it would be a huge supportive state crowd.
