So who are we going for in the UM/UGA game?

see UM at 0-2 in the conference would be very sweet, even from beyond the standpoint of it being Ole Miss, it would mean an early lead in the race for the West.

But that would also drop their RPI, and making our best win of the season a little less impressive right?

When it comes to OM, i don't care about RPI. I bleed maroon and white, but my second favorite team is whoever plays OM

We are both picked 1 & 2 in the West this year. A loss by them and a win by us tomorrow gives us a 2 game edge with them still having to come to the Hump. So, please tell me. Why is it not good if OM loses tonight?

It sure as hell beats what the hell we've been doing in baseball and football this past decade, winning the West and all rather regularly. Some of you idiots will come back down to earth and realize what we actually had when Stans is gone and we lose something like 23 of our last 32 games, like Arkansas currently has. And to at least one person, Pelphrey is still a better coach than Stansbury. Being a top 3 or 4 team in the Conference sure is a ****** thing to be.

And I'm definitely not dumb enough to think Pelphrey is better than Stansbury...

But winning the SECW doesn't gaurantee anything but a day off in the SEC Tournament. And if you take a quick gander at 2007, you'll see why I feel winning the SECW is slightly overrated. It's great to do it, but if you win it in football or baseball, much better things are gauranteed for you. The basketball SECW championship pales in comparison to a football/baseball SECW championship.

but you have to enjoy the ride. Why not celebrate championships? Its fun, and that's what this is all about.

two missed easy buckets to give them the lead. Only thing keeping them alive is Holloway serving bricks at the FT line.

Just because Ole Miss fans would never root for MSU, is no reason you have to be an ******* too. I am above all the petty rivalry bs.

We should get a nice RPI boost after tonight...

Opponents winning percentage (OWP) is 50% of the RPI score, which means it counts twice as much as the 2 other factors [winning percentage (WP) & Opponents' opponents' winning percentage (OOWP)] which are 25% a piece of an RPI score. Here's the formula written out.

RPI = .25*WP + .50*OPW + .25*OOPW

On our regular season schedule, we play Ole Miss twice, and georgia once. Therefore Ole Miss will factor into our OWP 2 times compared to 1 time from Georgia. Which means Ole Miss beating Georgia would boost our RPI twice as much as compared to Georgia beating Ole Miss. Continuing this line of reasoning based on RPI, we should pull for every SEC West against anyone team including SEC East teams, since all the West teams will affect our RPI twice as much as any East team would.

Confused yet? Try this wikipedia explanation, it will make your head spin. I still have yet to try to wrap my head around the OOWP. Let me know if I am completely wrong about how the RPI score works.

so I fail to see why those two sports should even be brought up. Our basketball team can't help the fact that SEC West hoops isn't what football and baseball are. And wouldn't it be worse if they couldn't win a down division? I've never understood why MSU fans get upset about winning West titles. It's like winning west titles and winning in the NCAAs has to be mutually exclusive. Surely you realize that both things could theoretically take place.

I understand people wanting to win more in the NCAAs, I do too. What I don't get is people constantly bringing up the SEC West titles and casting them in a negative light. So it isn't exactly equivalent to winning whatever division of the ACC that UNC and Duke are in, but so what. Again, that isn't MSU's fault. I'll take West titles all day long, and anyone that says otherwise needs to rethink things.

all you'd hear is that Stansbury can't even win the West. Only at MSU would people downgrade a championship.

The problem with basketball in the SEC is that the West is the weaker of the two and has been for a while... Winning the SEC overall Championship is something to hang your hat on, winning the West not so much...

but I'm an ******* sometimes. I also hope the rest of the SEC would go 0-30 as long as we could still get our SEC welfare check.

Most people like winning championships. Its not like we are playing in the MHSAA.

But yes, winning both divisions is better than winning just one--thanks for that tutorial.

That is the problem with the West in basketball, it does not guarantee an NCAA bid. You win the West in football and you most likely get a BCS bid.

5 western division SEC overall champs, 5 eastern division SEC overall champs. and one that was split 4 ways

99 Auburn
02 Bama
04 MSU
06 LSU
09 LSU

2000 was split between LSU, UT, UF, and UK.

I'd say it's pretty important to win the west, because without doing so you can't win the SEC regular season title.

I know, tough logic to follow here.

or course with hoping MSU goes 0-30.

I actually like your fans for the most part, at least the ones I know. You're just a rival, and so I pull against your team. That's the way a rivalry should be. I can't stand when fans say they pull for all the state schools when they aren't playing each other.

I pull against you more than others, but I'm with you in pulling against the rest of the SEC as well, though I pull more against the West teams than the East. We're too familiar with the West schools, so naturally the hatred for them is greater. My hatred for Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and SC doesn't compare to my hatred of Auburn, LSU, Bama, and Arkansas when we're talking about the rest of the SEC.

about people who love to win SEC west titles.

Its pretty simple.
