I had been of the mindset that it helped UVA more but then consider this from their standpoint.

It likely spells the end for the only UVA pitcher who's had much success against us and in the process leaves them without their closer.

It leaves us with a farm fresh closer with only 6 outs to get.

It pretty much quashes any momentum they might have had left from their two run 6th. Sure we snuffed it somewhat by shutting em down in the 7th but I think they still had a bit of mo leftover.

I think the biggest vulnerability for both teams is going to be the bottom of 7 and the top of 8 as the first inning is often rough as pitcher/ump/team settles in. They have got to keep us off the scoreboard in the 7th to have a chance. They have also got to get to Holder in the 8th to have a chance and need help from the BB, HBP, or, dare I say it, error. If he gets through the 8th unscathed its likely over. The good news is we don't have to get to their pitcher to win. It is of course mandatory for the cavs to get to ours.

I will say this for them. They seem to be an optimistic bunch from reading their message board.

I think it benefits us.

UVA has hours and hours to soak on the fact they are 6 outs away from their season ending. You could argue that might fire you up, but I'm thinking it just makes you tighten up and try to force things. 6 outs to our 9 outs. Down 2. All-American closer coming in to bat against. Your opponent gets to bat first and last if they need it. That can damage the psyche if you have to dwell on it for a day.

We have a huge opportunity to crush them mentally with a run or two in B7.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. This was essentially like pressing the pause button two innings before your season ends to give yourself a night to regroup. It stopped the momentum Girodo gave us after the 1-2-3 7th. I think we'll still win, but if anyone benefits from this, it's probably UVA.

On the bright side, it probably gets their closer out of the game, so we should hopefully have an easier time scoring. A couple of insurance runs would be huge.

This is the only benefit for us. We have had the momentum and caught almost every break for two days. That is bound to change and finishing the game today just means it is more likely that the tide will turn in game two.

I think to win it we will have to score more than the 5 runs we currently have. Hope I'm wrong...good news is we do have that extra at bat.

Great point. I agree. I don't like that our guys have had a day to hear everyone talk about Omaha tickets and ****. I will be super relieved if/when we get these 6 outs with a W.
