Shep said he didn't really care about getting beat by MSU and that they were only concerned about LSU - MSU was way down the list of who they consider their competition. He did admit though that MSU had accomplished more in basketball than the rebs ever had. Chris Wallace had a full blown "you arefull of ****" expression going on...

and that Ole Miss was State's "end all be all" of victories and kept on and on. Chris Wallace said something to the effect of...Good thing it wasnt that big a deal to you because I'd hate to see your reaction if it HAD bothered you that you lost in football and basketball to Mississippi State. His co-workers seem to enjoy a Rebel loss as much a most on this board.

I saw on NAFOOM a few weeks ago that he ripped into a caller from Hattiesburg about USM's basketball team. He's on a 17ing news show and he's running smack against them with a caller who probably isn't even a fan of them? Pretty unprofessional. Of course I got ripped a new one on NAFOOM for pointing that out. Several calls for my bannination. No matter that running smack on USM basketball is kind of like picking on the handicapped and, as I said, the caller probably wasn't even a fan to begin with.

They sure waste alot of time coming up with excuses for losing to a team they don't really care about. I refuse to watch Fox News when that deuchebag is on. He frightens the children with that "just blew a guy" leer of his.

reading threads about LSU and who the Rebels were battling The Tigers to get. They battle us formany more recruits than they do LSU, which tells me they are in our league, not LSU's, at least in football. Which means they are thinking a little too highly of themselves by saying LSU is their rival. I doubt most LSU fans could give a rip about Ole Miss. I actually grew up a die-hard Ole Miss fan and actually had a dorm reserved at Twin Towers (Stockard?) my freshman year before switching to State. I lived and died byThe Rebs in all sports. I loved Stan Torgenson, John Fourcade, and even Sean Tuoy(spelling I know) and John Stroud. And not once, ever in my 10-12 years of being a diehard fan did I ever consider anyone else but State to be our(Rebels) rivals. LSU was not in the picture. I think that when you go to Ole Miss, they teach you to think you are better than you actually are, and brainwash you into thinking things that just aren't true, like LSU being your rival. As a former Reb (as embarrassing as that is), I can tell you the LSUrival thing is fantasy, not reality.

Shep Smith is a giant douche and his coworkers are probably sick of hearing about how great Ole Miss is all the time, just like State fans get sick of hearing about it.

The best way State can grow their fanbase is to expose total strangers to douchebag Ole Miss fans.

the amount of people at Fox News and around the world for that matter who are now becoming increasingly familiar with Mississippi State because of Sheppard Smith.

watch it and how he wished he was going to be at "the Hump" and something to the effect that they were going to take State down and Chris Wallace replied with something like "unlike you did in football" It NEVER matters if they lose, but you NEVER hear the end of it when they win.......

Plus, they just won the New Mexico Bowl, so while not a great program, not really one that's in shambles either. And they're D-I. AND you lost to them on the road.

Unlike Tulane or Maine.

Maybe Wyoming and La Tech will play in a bowl game one day and settle this for us once and for all.

..I never watch FOX, but how does happen?

Does Shep Smith provide folksy homilies about Ole Miss vs. Miss. State in between reports on health care reform & Afghanistan?

I wish I could find the clip from the Obama Inauguration. Shep was doing some commentary and basically throws out a line comparing the amazing moment to his Rebels winning the Cotton Bowl. I could not believe he compared the inauguration of a US President, much less the first black US President, to a bowl game win. Maybe could have played it off had it been a National Championship, but in the end it came off as completely unprofessional. I thought surely that was the moment the would put the muzzle on him, but they never did.

But your analogy is erroneous.

Few things are as sweet as watching grown men wearing red pants, sweater vests, and sockless loafers trudging dejectedly out after yet another loss to Mississippi State and shutting up that damn Hotty Toddy ***** mating call.

I didn't grow up in Miss. hating State so for me there never was this OM has to beat y'all mentality. Excuse my pompousness but losing to y'all is like losing to a little brother whereas, sadly, beating LSU/Ala. is like beating a big brother.

...I enjoy beating Bama more and loathe losing to Ole Miss more. Heck, I could probably say the same about a handful other other schools. It's probably more fun to beat Florida, UT, and LSU than Ole Miss. But it's also more expected to lose to those schools so that losing to Ole Miss hurts worse.

That said, I have no delusions of who our biggest rival is.
