I hope it's Relf..I know some people have doubts about him but if he keeps running that speed option well and throws some slants or a simple post pattern every once in a while then he could do well this year.

Relf looked good yesterday but he wasn't ever pressured. And he could run outside easily on JSU but a SEC defensive end wwill be able to contain that. I think Relf is going to be a keeper and the confidence is there but Auburn weekend we will be on teh road against a much better team(defense). His true form will begin to show.</p>

Relf will not be able to roam freely against a much better defense. I was happy to see him play the way he did though

If you don't think that Relf can play as well against a good D, then what makes you think Tyson Lee will be any better? He didn't even look good on Saturday. Sure, his numbers look ok, but he didn't make plays and didn't put points on the board. I'm to the point where I don't judge a quarterback by simply not throwing interceptions. That's a good quality, but if you don't make any plays, what good have you done?
I think Relf is the guy. Saturday is the real test.

running the option will be tough to defend. Heck Relf and Rob Elliot will be great also. I like that alot better than Lee and AD. Relf just needs to learn to pitch it every now and then. Also would like to add that Robert Elliot is on his way for a breakout yr. His fundamentals looked great.

He has good moves and he runs north south better than any other running back on the team. He will be perfect in this offense next year when he gets to be the every down back. I think with his performance Saturday, and the lack thereof of Ducre, Elliot may have played his way into the rotation even with AD coming back.

...Relf looked great, but Lee is still the better passer by far. I hope they both play. I love the fact that Mullen used both Saturday and that the team functions well with either.

that is the only reason I put him ahead. Especially htis being a road game.

You say Lee didn't look good this weekend but he had a solid outing for his few possessions before he was taken out of the game to protect him for next weekend. And no he didnt have any scores in his stats tied to him but he would have if we didnt sub Relf in on the last scoring possession before the half. Lee is still short but he has a smart head on his shoulders and he can still play and be a factor this weekend.
It seems like all of this relf talk has erased lee off of the map but he is still here and he is still the leader in the huddle. Relf is coming on strong but this weekend will prove how far he has come

I think the starting job will be situational. If we start with a short field, I expect to see Relf. A long field and Lee will start.

Tyson may light the world on fire in practice (from what I've been told, he does) but it doesn't translate to the field on gameday. The biggest thing is that he never makes the tough throw. I don't care if he can throw curls, flats, and checkdowns. If you don't have the threat of the deep ball, those aren't effective. And Tyson has never shown that he is willing to throw the deep ball. Even Saturday, against a much weaker D than we will see the rest of the year, the longest ball he threw was a curl. I know on one play ( I believe this was on the drive where Brauchle missed a second field goal) there was a play where the outside guy on the righ ran a curl and the slot guy ran a corner. The corner route was WIDE open for six. And Tyson threw the curl, even though the guy was really covered and was immediately tackled. So in Tyson's stas that showed up as a 7 or 8 yard completion, but in reality that was a missed opportunity at six points.
Meanwhile, Relf threw the ball extremely well, and made some really great throws, specifically the toucdowns to Green and Bumphis (the second one) and the third and long completion to Chris Smith on the deep comeback. These throws stretched the defense and then allowed for Relf and Robert Elliot to shred the defense in the run game.
Now you tell me, who was the more effective passer?

...and there's no doubt that Relf had a great day Saturday. In fact, he had a higher percentage than Tyson, but threw for less yards, and they both completed a 19 yard pass that was their long. Also agree about Tyson and the deep ball. However, he was the second most accurate passer in the SEC last year behind a heisman trophy winner. If Relf throws for 70%, three touchdowns, and runs for 82 and a touchdown against Auburn, I'll agree with you. You can't conclude that Relf is a better passer than Lee based on one game against JSU. I think the coaches would tell you Lee is a better passer, and when Relf becomes a better passer, he'll take over. One thing that I think you can take from the game Saturday is that Mullen's offense needs a dual threat qb. Right now, we don't have one. We have one that can throw and one that can run. So they both play. Relf is going to have to throw enough to keep the defense honest, and Tyson will have to run enough to do the same.

Plus, Tyson is, by all accounts, a great leader, and he has a year of experience under his belt. He is less likely to make the killer mistake than Relf. I have absolutely no problem with both of them playing. In fact, I am in favor of it. I think it helps the team.

He's got experience, and he can start a game and keep the offense at least stable throughout the first couple of drives. Then bring in Relf and let him run and chunk. Hell, if we crank up a solid running game, it won't matter as much who we have back there. And running quarterbacks don't confuse Auburn; they practice with Kodi Burns.

I would really like to see us air it out deep first play. Relf send one deep to Wilder would be pretty fun to watch but we really don't need to take many deep shots until after we have established the strength of our offense. But after watching the Miami game there were some plays in there that I would love to see us try out against Auburn.
