but the coaches can't require it and they aren't allowed to be present. No one directly reporting to the football coach or part of the game day staff can be there. They usually have a Strength and Conditioning Coach who works directly for the athletic department hang around to keep a eye on things. They also cannot punish people for not coming to be within the rules. According to the article the coaches told players they had to come, were there for the practice, and made it clear they would be punished if they didn't show up. I guess what I am saying is that it appears that the players just said they spend a lot more time than the NCAA limits. Did they say they were required to do so?
I know it's a fine line - but, I think all programs encourage players to practice, etc. on their own.
